This is the reply from the Halifax Archives;
 
We don't Banns for Halifax St John for that date, only copies of some much earlier ones.  It's possible that they may be kept at our Wakefield office, Email:  wakefield@wyjs.org.uk or that they are still with the church.
 
Maybe you could mail the Wakefield office and then put a lookup request on the board or alternatively try to find out if St John's do have them and if it is possible to view them. If so I don't mind doing that for you if you live too far away to visit yourself.

Hi Linjoa,

I have just emailed the Archives at Halifax Library to find out if they have the Marriage Banns records. If they do or if they can get hold of them for me I am willing to look up the information you want. It may be a week or two before I go into the library but I don't mind doing it, I need to go over and do some more research myself.

I will have to do a bit more research to confirm Matilda's family. I am planning a vsit to Halifax archives to look up her marriage and birth to see if I can get any more details from there.

I will keep a copy of what you found and see if it ties in.
