Re the shipping records, Arthur does have a brother Frederick but he was born 1844, Arthur was born 1858  so the ages on the shipping records may mean they are the wrong people but worth a look anyway.  The other record of his death looks spot on.  Thanks again Trish for your help.

Thank you very much for this information - much better than I had hoped for.  Now I can take the next step.

Arthur Joe Sutcliffe emigrated to Australia (state unknown) from the UK sometime after 1871 and before 1881.  He was born in 1858 in Shipley, West Yorks to Joseph Sutcliffe and Maria Louisa (nee Etheredge).  I have recently been given a document which shows he owed his sister a debt of £50 and he was said to be "Arthur Sutcliffe of Australia", the document was dated 1894.  His death date was handed on by a relative but the source was unknown - he died 1 August 1913.  I don't know if he was married but I have checked all deaths in the UK without success so imagine he may have died in Australia.  There were other relatives went to Victoria but my searches there have not turned anything up in terms of marriages or deaths.  Is there some kind person who could check other records as well as Victoria records, maybe I missed something. :(

Yorkshire (West Riding) Completed Requests / Re: Request 1841 census lookup

Many Thanks to those who replied to my request.  I have now discovered that Abraham Walker was in fact a step brother to William Greaves due to the fact that his mother was formerly married to a "Greaves".  Abraham was born after his mother married John Walker.  I think that the information Joe gave me for 1841 is probably the correct family.  Thanks again.

Maisie  :)

I wonder is someone could help me to find Abraham Walker (b. 1833 Birstall) in 1841.  In 1851 he was living with his step-brother William Greaves in Leeds.  There is no area given, only St Saviour, Leeds and the address for William Greaves is East of No 100.  Not much to go on I'm afraid.  Abraham's  parents John and Rachel Walker were I believe in Silcoates, Wakefield but he didn't appear to be with them and it occurred to me that he could be with his stepbrother who would have been 17 in 1841 (born Heckmondwike).  Leeds seems to be a starting point and I'm sorry I can't be more specific.
