Thanks for that scunsan. Some people seem to jump to the conclusion that any name beginning with dela is of French or Norman ancestry. Some time ago I came across someone who insisted despite all the facts that their Delaney family from Laois, which is of course O Dubhshlaine was from the French Delaunay

This family is shown on 1911 census at Moanroe More,Ballintober-near Newcastlewest in county Limerick. At the time they were listed under the name CONNORS-commonly used at the time for O'Connor.

Laois (Queens) / Aghaboe family
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 22:50 BST (UK)  »
With Laois parish records now available online at IFHF site,I had hoped that it might have been possible to trace a family from the Aghaboe area.Admittedly the name is very common-Kelly-but not too many in parish online and none that seems to fit mine, who seem to have come down to Limerick area in 1850's.A Patrick and his sister Johanna were married in Limerick in 1859 and 1861.I have no idea of parents names and presume that  the names of witnesses at marriage and godparents to children were Limerick based.Any ideas?

Cork / Re: Methodist church Fermoy

If you google this term one of the sites refers to a British soldier killed by IRA c 1920/1 on way to service at the local Wesleyan Methodist Church-in reprisal the Brits burned much of the town.As a major garrison town Fermoy would have a number of Non-Conformist chapels to cater for large numbers of soldiers stationed there. If you try googling methodist ireland there are contact details and they may be able to help re records of Fermoy congregation.

Cuan is the Irish word for harbour. If you google "cuan kerry" there are a number of references to the name.I think yours may be Cuan in the Ventry area of the Dingle peninsula-still Irish speaking.
