Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: 1841, 1851 census lookup

Still not sure if it's the right family, but have found out that a Valentine Walters married Mary Mortimer in 1774 at Gloucester, just the right time to have their bunch of children at Middlesex: William Mortimer and Thomas et al. I really don't know how much families travelled around in those times? Is it likely to marry in Gloucester and have a family in Middlesex, then one of the sons move to Staffordshire? (My Essex ancestors seem a lot more stable and stationary!). Nice coincidence in names though ... I'll keep hunting :)

Unfortunately no I haven't seen the original. Suffolk sue kindly found a baptism for me at Mountnessing that led me to think about the marriage of her parents, so did a quick search as a start on familysearch - there were a few William Clarkes and Hannahs around the right time period - including the unusually named Hannah.

Thank you again Suffolk Sue!

Funny that William definitely comes up as having William and Hannah for parents in family search?! ???

Thanks again for all your help.

(Maybe I'm being a bit thick - how do I add "completed" to the subject on this thread?)

England / unusual name GULLASSING
« on: Sunday 24 August 14 05:50 BST (UK)  »
Whilst looking for a marriage of William CLARKE and Hannah around 1795 near Mountnessing Essex, I came across a marriage of William CLARKE and Hannah GULLASSING 12 Sept 1794, both otp. I've never heard that surname before and a google search comes up with nothing, (although there is a Gulasing River in the Philippines) so I guess it's been badly transcribed. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what the name might be?

thanks

That's wonderful, thank you so much Suffolk Sue!

I hope it's not too rude to ask if you can see any other children to William and Hannah? I had a look on family search and saw Richard (21 May 1809) and William (14 July 1805) at Mountnessing, but no Lucy, as well some earlier baptisms: Elizabeth (1794), Martha (1799) and Sarah (1798), but don't know if they're all part of the same family. It seems odd that there would be Lucy and William baptised just 1 month apart.

Thanks again!

Yes, thanks Mark. Whilst it seems likely Hannah is the daughter of Ann Prior and James Cane as there is a 70 yr old Ann Cane with Hannah and William in the 1841 census, it doesn't actually say she is the mother-in-law, and I haven't found a baptism for Hannah, although Ann and James have 6 earlier girls all baptised at Chrishall. I'd really like to get something more definite before I accept them as the right family.

Thanks again :)

Trying to find details of a marriage between John SUTTON and Lucy probably in Mountnessing around 1827. John was from Blackmore, b around 1795 and Lucy from Mountnessing, b around 1810. Their first child (that I can find) James was baptised in Blackmore in 1828.

Many thanks

Thanks Olleym, I guess the fathers weren't recorded. Susan Cane may be Hannah's uncles' wife - if it's the family I'm researching.

Many thanks again
