Thanks again, and I'v found and added this to my records (I can't find Tillingham *mble anywhere either)
2 questions now (1 here, the other on a separate post)

How do you all manage to turn up these names that are recorded/transcribed oddly?
In most of my efforts to widen my searches it just turns up lots of 'Swift'  etc that are most unlikely

re reply 23.

Deaths September qtr 1848
Charlotte Shevatt  Islington    3   210

GRO search shows she was 10 but I can't see a birth registration for her if she was born England

How do I do a GRO search that shows the age?
I seem to be going round in circles again.  I can find the info that gives me the page and volume references above but not an age.

re the example above, I don't think she is particularly relevant to my search (I found a record showing that she dies in the Workhouse as an infant on 7th and was buried 11/8/1848)

For future searches I would like to know where I'm going wrong though.
Many thanks

Thanks again Keyboard86, both for the lead on Susan 1851 and for the tip re FindMyPast address search - I didn't know about that

Thanks again.
Re Thomas Murphy and Mary - I've found them as above on the 1881 and 1871 Census and the address is consistent.
How can I be sure the 1861 entry is them - this Mary says she is from Ireland and in all the later entries Mary is down as being from Islington.  I can't find a better match though.

Is there any way of searching using the address, by the way?

Thanks

Brilliant Keyboard86 that worked!

Any ideas re the mentioned marriage between Thomas Murphy and Mary?

I had found a possible marriage between a Thomas Murphy and Sarah Redgwell 26/1/69 in Whitechapel

Thanks CaroleW, I saw the reference above to
1911 looks to be Susan SHEVATT 68 b Islington
I've tried every combination I can think of in my Ancestry search but nothing comes up for her for 1911

I'll keep trying

I still can't locate Susan in 1911 census.  I guess 1851/61 she was still in service somewhere, I certainly haven't found anything other than workhouse records that show the siblings together.

Mention was made previously of a marriage between Thomas Murphy and a Mary

I did find a marriage between Thomas Murphy and Sarah Redgwell 26/1/1868 at St Jude Whitechapel, that I thought might be him, but didn't find a marriage to Mary

off to bed now :)
