No I can't find Ann in the 1841 census - unless she is the 15 year old servant Ann Day in the 1841 Census
Piece:   377
Book:   3
Folio:   17
Page Number:   29

The only likely birth record I can find is for a baptism of Mary Ann Day - parents William and Eleanor on 2 Jan 1827

I'm intrigued by Richard Oakley her first husband - if he is the Richard who married Ann Brazenor and had children Bethick/Bethia and John they are still together on the 1851 Census when he's married to Ann Day. So is he bigamous or is there a different first wife that I can't find?

Confused!

Thank you.
It is trying to corroborate the first husband of Ann Day - Richard Oakley, and who his first wife was, and the parentage of Peter and Robert Oakley that is giving me trouble now.

I'm returning to this thread as I have another dilemma>

Thank you Maidenstone I have modified the entry, I didn't realise it was not allowed - should have read the terms properly.
Re Martin and James Birth dates, James should actually read 1900, I must have been looking cross eyed at the information I was copying from!

Hello Helen,
I have had a message through Ancestry from another Collins, who is a Grandson of William and Teresa Collins (another of Patrick and Jane's sons) Gary is in America and tracing the tree from that side.
He has quite a bit of information on his tree but seems to be maybe what he's been told as there is not much evidence, so difficult for me to follow

Can anyone help with when/where my Grandad may have enlisted?

His name is Martin Collins
He was born in Loughrea, Co. Galway in 1895 and family rumour has it he signed up to get free passage to England and that he was in his teens.

I have so far found his RASC Roll of Individuals entitled to the Victory and British war Medals (page 6166)
It shows him as a Driver and his RASC No as T4/088619
while his 2/8 London Regt. Rifle. Bde. No as B/201877
& notes
RASC 9.1.16-25.9.17
2/8 London Regt. Rifle Brigade. 26.9.17 - 22.11.18
Retransferred RASC 23.11.18

written beneath that in red ink is something I can't read plus RASC/101B61

I can find no information about where and when he actually enlisted. Nor where and when he was demobbed

Any ideas would be welcomed please
Thank you

Thank you.
No he wasn’t still in the army when he married.
I can’t find any reference to his war records which is frustrating.

It was a crucial time in his life and no records!

Re Grandad Martin Collins: Born Loughrea Co. Galway 1895, probably in Woodford Co. Galway 1911, Married my Gran (Vesta) in London 1920.
But I can find nothing between 1911 and 1920.

My brothers memory re Martin 'joining up' is slightly different to mine.
" . .there was  a requirement for him to ride, it was a mounted regiment. All mounted regiments are called cavalry but not all have cavalry as part of their name and there were quite a number of mounted Irish regiments during that period.
He joined up to get free passage to England and although he had been bought up on a farm in Ireland and could ride he pretended he could not to delay going into active service"

Anyone have any ideas?
