Inverness / Strange address in census
« on: Sunday 21 April 19 12:58 BST (UK)  »
I have come across some unusual addresses over the years but this one has me stumped.

'Two Sco left by Onisbathe, Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie, Inverness, Scotland'.

I assume it was a mistake on the part of the scribe taking the census? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Common Room / Can you have two birth certificates?
« on: Friday 14 October 16 23:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have just discovered a relative (deceased) may have two birth certificates. The first when he was born with the surname of his biological father, who was not married to his mother, the other another name, of his mother's husband when he child was 6. (He was the result of an affair)
Is it possible to change the details like this but have the original document survive?

Thanks for the reply,
His wife does tell of him being shot down but her stories and the truth I have found don't always match. Her memory aint too great at 94 years old.

I've discovered from my grandfathers RAF papers he was admitted to Matlock in 1941. It was only for a short time then again admitted to Lochnow? Hospital. Is there anyway of finding out what he was admitted for? I've heard Matlock was a psychiatric hospital. Fatigue from flying or something more?

Roxburghshire / Re: MIs for Hawick Cemeteries

Hi there
I was also looking for people possibly buried at Hawick. An Agnes Thomson nee Mackinnon. She was originally from Ettrick but her death certificate says she died in Hawick in 1976. She was married to a George Allan Thomson who died in 1992. Agnes was born at the Thirlestane estate in Ettrick in 1923. George was born in Hawick in 1911.

Selkirkshire / Re: Ettrick burials

Thanks for the replies. I'm just back from my trip and found MACKINNONs in the Ettrick cemetery. There were fresh plot markers for other MACKINNONs next to one of the two headstones that we found. Are these maybe bought plots for family still living? We found no living MACKINNONs in the area. Where would I find the records for who these new plots are for?

Selkirkshire / Ettrick burials

I'm planning a trip to Ettrick to trace where my grandfathers family came from. Are there many churches or graveyards that may hold some clues as to what happened to them? The family home was at Cossarshill and as far as I'm aware is still there.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wigtownshire / Robina Loch Blane Ritchie Mackinnon from Dunragit
« on: Sunday 16 August 15 15:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
I'm looking for info on the family of Robina Loch Blane Ritchie. She married  Ian Mackinnon from Inveress around 1941/1942. They weren't together very long as he returned to Inverness after his war service without her. But I have a record of Robina or Ruby as she was known has having a son named David. He was born in 1950 in Dunragit. His fathers name on the birth certificate is blank. Her 1980 death certificate has her as Ruby Mackinnon which is surprising as Ian divorced her and remarried. At least I hope he did!
Any info would be great.

Inverness / Macphersons of Inverness 1866 onwards
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 13:33 BST (UK)  »
The children of Alexander and Jessie Macpherson nee Barron all lived in Inverness from 1867 onwards. Im looking for anyone else tracing them as my great grandmother was Flora Macpherson the 9th of their 11 children. I know they owned shops on Castle street, the antique store and a B+B but not much else. Flora moved away but as far as i can tell all the other siblings stayed in the Highlands.
