There us a marriage in Skerray in 1929 ( 12th April) between Angus Matheson Macleod and Catherine Mackay. He was 28 and a General Labourer if Strath Tongue, Tongue father Hugh MacLeod, ( crofter) Mother Isabella nee Matheson. She was 18 and Home Worker of Glaicbea Skerray, father James MacKay (crofter) mother Henrietta MacKay nee MacKay. Witnesses were William MacKay, l
Letts, Skerray and Barbara MacKay, Brae Tongue.
If this is the correct couple then you should be able to work your way backwards using Scotlandspeople.

Samuel and Annie married in Glasgow in April 1893 just about six months before the birth of my grandfather Wolsey and his twin brother William Gillies Clotworthy ( who was killed in WW1). There is evidence that the Clotworthys and Culleys had known each other since at least 1880 when two of Samuels brothers were living as lodgers in the same tenement in Greenock as the Culley family.

Thanks everyone!
Wolsey Clotworthy was my grandfather and these were his two sisters travelling to the US. I always assumed that Curry was a misspelling but will follow this up further. The male child born in Belfast was not Wesley as mother's maiden name was Southern ( but this has allowed me to update another part of the Clotworthy tree).

Thanks for looking. I have been searching for Wesley for years and years now without success so thought I would see if anyone else could come up with something I had missed. Neither Samuel or Annie had been married before but it is possible that Wesley was not Samuel's son. There were 12 children in all but in the 1911 census Annie only declared 11 children of the marriage. There was, however, a much older daughter Catherine (Rena) born in 1886 ( supposedly in Glasgow though I have never found her birth either) who was brought up by her Culley  grandparents in Ireland and never lived with the family in Glasgow and I think she is probably the undeclared child. She also went to the U.S. and died in Ballston Spa in 1932.

United States of America / Wesley Clotworthy (1890- ?)

Looking for information and in particular a death entry for Wesley Clotworthy born c. 1890 in Ireland. Wesley was my grandfather's brother. He was the son of Samuel Clotworthy and Annie Culley but was born before they married and I cannot find a birth record for him in Scotland or Ireland ( under Clotworthy or Culley/Cully. He appears as their 11 year old son Wesley Clotworthy in the 1901 Scottish Census (Glasgow) with birthplace Ireland and that is the only concrete information I have other than a composite photo in which he appears in uniform along with his other brothers ( taken I assume before or during WW1).
According to information received in the 70's from Wesley's younger brother Hugh Clotworthy who settled in Ballston Spa,New York after WW1, Wesley also went to the USA and died there around 1927/28.

Sorry - that should read John and Rhoda. Both appear up till 1861 in the census. Rhoda appears to have died in Bradford in 1867 but John was still around in 1871 living with daughter Rhoda.

There is an 1841 census entry on Ancestry for Harris Street Bradford for John Ackroyd, Worsted Spinner age 45 and Rhoda Ackroyd age 35 with a number of children. Next door is William Ackroyd, Painter 20 and Eliza age 25( all these ages will be roundings up or down so may not tally exactly with known birth dates). Could this be your family. Rhoda and William appear in later census as well.

Could possibly be daughters of Herbert Armitage Waller and Annie Birtles who married in Sheffield in 1897. In 1911 Annie is widowed and living with her parents. She has three children living with her - two girls in their early teens and a four year old son - but there is a convenient gap between the children  where these other two girls could fit in.
