Durham / LF: Birth or Christening Record for GILLS, Robert (b abt 1874)
« on: Friday 30 January 15 16:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I can't seem to find a birth or christening record for this person. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong places?

Here is what I know (from the 1881 Census)

Robert Gills was born to Joseph and Alice Gills abt 1874 in Chester-Le-Street, Durham.

I'd love to order his birth registration, but I have no idea what the index information is to send in a request :/

Thanks In Advance :)

Grandies,

Were you looking at my public family tree? (Hurt Family Tree)?  It would be funny if it were!  LOL.  Thanks, though, for taking the time though to look for information :)

Sally!

Im sorry I missed your post! Thank you for bringing my attention to it in the other posting I did! The Durham site has been rather informative and even place some of the coal areas near some residences listed in the census

Rus,
Are you speaking of the original for the Christening record?  If so, I did ask on the Lookup board if there would be any more information on the original than what was on FreeReg.  One of the ladies assured me that she is one of the transcribers and they enter all of the information given per entry.
As far as the link provided, I was lookin at the collections list and is there a difference between "England" records and "Great Britain"? That threw me off just a bit :)  Thanks for helpin me out :)

It certainly does and my thanks for a thorough explanation :D

I figured I'd ask- just in case it was like here where not necessarily all of the information of the original gets put into a summary and there are hints in the actual record that go unnoticed if one doesn't look :)

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has any resources pertaining to the subject?  I am unfamiliar with the history of the policing profession at this particular point in time.

Were there any sort of registry, guild (?), or listing of police officers, their service records or the like?

I am specifically looking in the North of England...Northumberland and Durham.

Many Thanks :)

I may have missed it so I apologise if this question has been asked an answered already:

Is there a way to find out which pit or for which company an ancestor may have worked?

I have two who worked in the coal industry- one as a blacksmith and the other as a laborer (unsure of what specific job he held) in Northumberland/Durham area.  The range I would be looking at would be about 1855 to 1884.

Many Thanks :)
