Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Evans (b 1829 Bangor)
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Suz, Richard, Craclyn and David. William married in Australia, the children were born in Australia.  He came as ships crew, worked around local waters with coastal traders for a while then officially 'came on land' and emigrated 1858.
Information from their birth cert's and his marriage cert provide the only information we have. He was noted to be present at their births so he provided the information. On his marriage cert his father is recorded as William Evans, miner, mother Ellen Owens. He named his first son Thomas, which may be his father's fathers name? other childrens names include Ellen, William, Elizabeth, James, and Henry.

Hi Liverbirds, I was wondering if you knew the maiden name of Ellin Evans that you mentioned in the 1841 census? I have an ancestor, William Evans, whose parents were William and Ellen/Ellin Evans, miners, he would have been 11/12 yrs in 1841. Donna.

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / William Evans (b 1829 Bangor)
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 02:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my Welsh ancestry and I would be most obliged for some help. William Evans emigrated to Australia, he was born 1829 North Wales, parents William Evans, miner, and Ellen Owens. On some of his children's birth cert's it is recorded that William was born in Anglesey, North Wales, and on some it's recorded he was born in Bangor, North Wales. It looks like these two places are quite different, could it be that these two places were part of the same parish? Thank you for your consideration,
Donna.
