Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / lookup census 1841,1861 and BDM Gloucester
« on: Sunday 22 October 06 14:48 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my great grandmothers side of the family
My great grandmother is Sarah "Harris" Pardoe

I have been to the history centre and on Ancestry UK at the library, but can only find part of what i am looking for. I was hope that someone could look up where I am unable to find information to see they come up with anything

Sarah's fathers name is John Hughes born Bromsgrove
Her mothers name Mary Ann ( nee Harris) born Grafton Gloucester

I have john and Mary Ann on the 1871 census living in Bromsgrove

RG103071 foilo73 page 17

and then on the 1881 census
RG11 2940 /22

I cannot find Mary Ann on a census before 1871 with John. Her eldest son was 12 on the 1871 census so I am guessing they were married before this and maybe living in Glos area as this is where Mary Ann came from. I am also hopping that they were married in Mary Ann's parish in Gloucester?

On the 1891 john is married again to different lady which may well be Maryann's sister

I cannot find Mary Ann with her parents other then possibly  in 1851 when she was 11
HO107/2045 folio 30 page 16

But then it was only with her father and he's down as a widow. I really did want to know who her mother was by finding her in 1841  and when she died

thanks

][/color] Yes it is a little late they had 4 children by 1891. This record has come up before.  I have searched all the parishs in worcester  (starting with All saints until I had done all the worcestershire parishes )and cannot find that marriage ???? I have no idea where their marriage could have been ?? If she did come from Bath  what was is she doing in Worcester.

I am going to have to order that cert, but even then how will I be sure. I know there was another mary and william smith in worcester as I have seen it some where well going through records, but it wasnt mine as it just didnt match up with occupations  they were butchers I think etc

Hi Mimosa

Thanks for the information how did you get Thomas Smiths
Christening and parents Brilliant  Brilliant   !!!!!!!
Are you able to find the 2 williams births/ christenings

On the 1881 census looking up the reference you gave

I have Martha windower with

Allice Smith 5
Eliza Smith 15
Francis Smith 9
Margaret Smith 4
Martha Smith 47
Thomas Smith 14

NO
Jane c1858
Joseph c1860
or no William (dad) or son William

No wonder I couldn't find it. I was looking up William.
It looks as if William (  their dad or my GG granddad ) has died some time after Margaret Smith 4  was conceived and before the census 1881

But where is William ( their son, my Gt grandad)  he would have been about 19 then. Did they leave home back then before they marred?

Hes on the 1891 census with his wife Mary and his oldest child is 7 , could they have been married together in 1881?
but cannot find him any where on any census.

It says Mary came from bath in the one census, could he have been in bath? and thats why I cannot find him on a Worcestershire census.  I alls cannot find this marriage
Mary was townsend before she was a smith

Hi Mimosa

It is a nightmare ATM my head is going round and round. I have been trying to trace this side of my family for over a year now. I did give up at one stage, but had to start again I cannot settle until I know as much as I can. It has to be out there some where

Yes he is my G Grandad and yes he is married to Mary from bath, however in the other census it says she was born All saints Worcester. Joe age 2 on the census is my Grandad

No we are not sure of the name of his mother as we cannot find his birth.

Hi
I have spent the whole day from about 11 until now looking through census at Ancestry

A family member  went to the history museum and has got some folio , page numbers etc for my great granddad for 1901, 1891,  my great great granddad 1871, 1861,  and great great  great granddad for 1851.

I have still to get to the museum to look at them  up to confirm and print them, but she has listed some of the names for me, but not all as there were lodgers etc there as well

she couldn't find  my great great granddad or my great granddad in the 1881 census, so I have been looking all day
as the assess  to 1881 is free to them but I cannot find them ether

I would would be very very grateful if someone here could have a look to see if I am missing it as my head is spinning

If I give you the info I have

great granddad 1901    Reg13, piece,27777,  folio,173, page 30

great granddad 1891    Reg12, piece, 2325, folio 61

great great granddad 1861 Reg9, piece, 2090, folio 41,page20

great great great granddad  1851  HO107,piece2042,folio158,page 43

that may be more helpfull then their names
but I will give them as well in case
William smith ( great granddad)
William smith ( great great granddad)
thomas smith ( great Great granddad)

Hello
I am trying to find out about my grandads brother ( William Smith )

I know from parish records when he was married he was in the 8th Battalion Worcester during the war, but thats it.
I do not know if he died or was OK
I was looking on
http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/wr.php?main=inc/bat_8

Under the roll of honour there is a William Smith there from the 1/8 Battalion, but how do I know if that could be him

I am still reality new to family history and still struggling to know where to look for things, with the very little information I have bout my family I would welcome any help ideas
thanks
