My grandmother had these two glass plates in her possession, which I now have. I don't know who they are but I am guessing they were her grandparents.
Jesse Warhurst was born in 1798 and died in 1870. His wife Charlotte Smith was born 1814 and died in 1880. I believe these glass plate pictures were only popular in the 1850s/1860s, so would their ages tie in with this? Can anyone suggest the ages of this couple and the time period the pictures were taken?
The plate of the woman has survived very well, but the man's plate is faded and a corner has broken off. My grandmother's mother had a print taken off the man's picture which again suggests it was her parents.
I have had rude comments about the lady in the picture, but she probably had a hard life! The family were not well off and I am surprised that they were able to have these plates made. Would they have been expensive?
Thank you to anyone who can help.
