The Lighter Side / Re: What's the oddest name you've found?

Wasn't Diana Dors born a Fluck?

You are correct, but I did have to look it up.

Nevertheless I had not expected to find this ancestor buried in Maryland, but she followed a couple of her sons from the Forest of Dean to Maryland.  They arrived just in time for the civil war which may or may not explain why her granddaughter emigrated to the Antipodes instead.

Thank you very much.

They don't seem to come up via Google the way they used to, but it's great that the information is still online.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / St Mary's , Twyford parish records

This link used to work for me but doesn't any longer - it was a transcription.

Would anyone know where these records could be found now please?

I think you might be wanting a copy of the original image from the parish register (which they will have signed themselves), which is not the same as a legal marriage certificate which is a transcription.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: HELP..New Yorkshire records online - but where?????

At times I like the precision of FindMyPast very much, and how you don't get so many irrelevant hits.

But the searches seem a little odd sometimes.

I tried it today with a marriage in Westminster that I know took place in 1834 and is on FindMyPast (as I've looked at it before).  It only came up in the search when I chose the Westminster record set to search.  If I didn't select Westminster marriages and just searched across all records sets for the bride or groom it didn't come up.

Did you find the records you were looking for Clanman?

I was just looking at today's Campbell of Breadalbane post....which lead me to this much earlier post.

Thanks Lu - that's great.

For some reason I hadn't noticed your message come in.   I hope you have shaken off your cold and are feeling better.

Clearly she is not the wrong age to be the Catherine Thomson from Liberton,Scotland / Pine Hill, Dunedin, New Zealand, so the informant at her death was mistaken, but it also makes her the right age to be the Australian-born daughter of John Benson and Catherine Ryan.

I really appreciate your help.

I'm very impressed that you've had some success with this, as I thought DNA would be a long shot in this instance.  Thank you for the update.

I don't think it includes Leeds or Wakefield - I've been looking to see whether they have records I already have from Ancestry.
