Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census lookup please - Obern

Thanks Kris, seems to be the right family. Selina/Delilah, closer than some names I've seen between 1841 and 1851! Mary and her husband have not been easy to track, (Devon, somerset, Gloucester, sneaking of to Wales for a while, Worcester, visiting on census days etc).

Hello

Could someone please look up Mary Oberne in the 1841 somerset census for me please. She was born in Stoke Lane (later Stoke St Michael) in about 1827. By 1851 she was living somewhere in gloucestershire as a servant, so I'd like to find out who her family were. The name could be Obern, Oberne, Oborne etc. There were a number of families in stoke lane with these name variants.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Census lookup Warwick - Willetts

Angi, Veron

Many thanks, this might point me in the right direction for finding out  Esther's maiden name. The second name should have been Willitts, bad writing or just the same problem I've had all my life!

Hi again Barbara,

George and Emma Willitts were in Lancashire by 1861, there was also another son Harry born in 1857. On the Census it has all the sons born in Cheshire, but I have Wolverhampton for both James and Harry from somewhere.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Lippett Twyning
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 23:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Master,

Joseph Lippett, father of your John, as shown by Catherine in the 1861 Census, came from Strensham in Worcestershire. His Father and Mother were Joseph Lippett (born1762) and Anne Showell (born 1766). Joseph and Anne had 8 daughters and 4 sons, at least one died young as there was another Joseph born in about 1790.

One of the other sons, James, is one of my ggg grandfathers. He and his family went from Strensham to Bretforton Worcester.

Your Joseph was christened on 2/7/1809.

I'm sure there must be some connection to other Lippetts in Hanley Castle and Upton-upon-Severn, but not really looked at this.

I have been unable to find anything else about Joseph and Anne, but Joseph probably had a brother in Strensham as there was one other family there at the same time headed by Thomas Lippett.

Hope this is of interest

Simon

Hello Barbara,

George Willitts died in 1871, recorded in Chorlton Lancashire. He was brother of Thomas Willitts, who I'm directly descended from.

Emma, Tom and James were in the 1881 census in Gorton which is in the Chorlton District.

James married Emily Evans in 1884 and had son Harry in 1885.

Tom married Olive Stride in Gorton in 1888 recorded in Chorlton.

James and Tom still in Gorton in 1901.

Any help?

The 1841 Census incorrectly shows James Mason’s wife as Emma. In fact it was Amelia (copied wrong or incorrectly recorded as a lot of names were in the 1841 census).

James was born in Upton on Severn in 1775 and married Amelia (Amy) Hodges (b 1779 Upton) on 18/10/1800. They had numerous sons and daughters (at least 13) 12 of whom were born in Ripple, of which Daniel (b. 1811) was one.

One of Daniel’s brothers being John Mason (b1803), one of my 3 greats Grandfathers.

James died in 1853 and Amelia in 1860.
