London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1891 Census - Homerton
« on: Monday 22 November 04 20:29 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the whereabouts of Henry Leslie Pettitt (born 1883)  in Homerton 1891. In 1901 he was living at 28 Benn St, Homerton and in 1881 at 5a Percy Terrace, Homerton.

Would be living with his brother Sydney (born 1880), Frederick (born 1872), Arthur (1868), his parents Joseph (b.1837) and Eliza (b. 1841) at least.

Many Thanks for your time

Am looking for a Thomas Richardson born Saffron Walden, Essex 1827, who later settled in the Haggerstone area.

His parents were William and Ann Richardson, also I believe born Saffron Walden, probably in the 1790's or a shade later.

If anyone can see such people in any census, I'd be ever so grateful.

Cheers,

Ray

I am trying to establish any information on "Thomas Coningham - Cycle Maker" that appears in a mysterious family photograph that I've just come across.

Possibly in the Islington, Hackney, or some other part of the East End of London.

Anyone any ideas where this may have been?

Essex Lookup Requests / 1841-71 Census - Richardson of Saffron Walden
« on: Thursday 11 November 04 03:50 GMT (UK)  »
Is there a kind soul out there that can help me find Thomas Richardson born 1829 on the 1851 census in Saffron Walden, and if possible on the 1841 too?  He was the son of William and Ann Richardson, and was probably still living with them, as he didn’t get married until 1860 by which time he had moved down to London.

I would also like to trace his parents William and Ann Richardson – don’t know their ages but they married in 1818. I haven’t traced them on any census yet and don’t know when they died, so I’d be grateful for any year. From what I know both father and son were labourers.

Thanks,
Ray

Completed Census Requests / 1861 and 1871 Census - Tuilerie St HAGGERSTONE
« on: Sunday 17 October 04 14:53 BST (UK)  »
I have got a conflict within my Curd family records.

I have a Joseph Curd living in Tuilerie Street, Haggerstone in 1876, possibly at no. 58

Can anyone check if there were any Curds living in that road in either 1871 or 1861. I would like to know details of the family if any kind soul can help me here.

Hi

Could anyone look to see if there was a Jones or Petitt/Pettit/Pettitt family living in Shrubrook Road, Dalston, Hackney in the 1861 census?

Eliza Jones married Joseph Petitt in St Philips church Dalston in the following year.

His surname has been documented with several different spellings.

Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Getting the year right pre-1752
« on: Wednesday 29 September 04 21:38 BST (UK)  »
In about 1751 or 1752, New Year's Day changed from March 25 to January 1.

I feel that has given confusion in parish register records published on the net.

The registers then were headed with a year, and then each individual entry the month and date, and there were generally listed from January to December - nothing special there!

But I have across examples where I have been given a year, and when I've checked the parish register its a year out!

So if I see a list of entries all under 1745 say, are the ones between January 1 and March 24 in the 'old' year or do they relate to what we'd now call 1746 - the new year? I'm assuming here that they're written from January to December.

I've also come across records for say 1731 which go from March 25 to March 24. In this case I assume a January entry we would transcribe as 1732?
