London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage Help
« on: Wednesday 04 January 06 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the suggestions. I have searched the freebmd as well as lots of other places and have also tried variations on the surnames. I even tried Sygner as this was what they were wrongly put down as in the 1861 census, but no luck. However I didn't come up with Tyner, so I'll shoot off and investigate that one. Thanks for the suggestions.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage Help
« on: Tuesday 03 January 06 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone make a suggestion as to where I can find a marriage in the 1880's please? I've gone through the 1837 online from 1881 to 1890 and also the LDS records on line. I'm completely stumped as to where else I can look.
Both the bride and groom, Frank Watkins and Louisa A Tyrer, were living with their respective families in the 1881 census and their first daughter Alice was born in 1886. This was around the Islington, Stoke Newington area.
Would be grateful for any ideas of where next to look, preferably via the internet as I live in New Zealand.
Thanks

Sue

Having read the posts I must admit I was totally surprised. I joined Genes Reunited about two years ago (before it changed its name) and I have never had error messages, and 99% of messages I have sent have been replied to. I have found several descendants of lost relatives there, one only two days ago. Any suggestions I have made to the Genes people has been politely replied to and in one case acted upon.
I have to say though that Rootschat is far more helpful, but I believe that Genes Reunited has its place too. Especially if you're at the other end of the world from your research.

Thanks Jane,
I've been using the holidays to dig deeper, nothing yet, but I'll remember your offer. Thanks again.

Thanks for your help, I will go and look at the Cambridge FHS as suggested. I've also looked on the Family History Online site and found Alice as you said in the 1841 census in the workhouse. I also found the complete record of Susan's marriage to Thomas Todd in 1832 and apparently he was a widower.
A descendant of William and Alice has contacted me and we think that my Susan is his Susan born 1809, just need a bit more checking.
Thanks for all your help

Thanks Frances
That probably is her as the census record of 1851 shows her as being born in 1832 so in 1841 she probably would be 10yrs old. Her father seems to have disappeared by 1851 but her mother is down as married not widowed.
Thanks for your help, I'll try and investigate further.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Dibbles of Dorking

My husband's grandfather was Charles George Gordon Dibble born Dorking in 1889 (he was commonly known as George). He died in WW1 in 1914 and his wife lost touch with his family when she remarried.
So far I've found George, his family including parents Henry William Dibble and Harriet Patience Dopson or Dobson. I believe Henry's parents were George Dibble and Mary Etherington but have yet to get his birth certificate to prove this.
If anyone is researching the Dibbles of Dorking I'd love to hear from you.

Northumberland / Burgess/Paulin/Waugh names
« on: Saturday 31 December 05 22:46 GMT (UK)  »
I have a William Burgess married to Elizabeth Paulin in Newcastle Upon Tyne in March 1873. I have their marriage index reference and will eventually get their marriage certificate so I can go back further.
They had two daughters Mary J and Jane Elizabeth (or Elizabeth Jane - she kept changing her name). Our tree comes from Jane Elizabeth who married Frank Perkins, but I am trying to find Mary's descendants. She married a James Waugh before 1908 (she was the witness at her sister's wedding) and had at least two children - a son - younger child name unknown; and a daughter who's name could be Phylis who married someone called Bernard - this information came from my mother-in-law who could have got the wrong names of the daughter and her husband. Phylis was apparently the bridesmaid at my mother-in-law's wedding in 1938.
Would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be part of this family or who have come across them in their own research.

Hi, my surname interests for London are:

Watkins: Islington, Stoke Newington area
Bills: Clerkenwell area

Would love to hear from anyone who is researching these names and thinks they might have a link to my Frank Watkins and Lizzie Emma Bills (two different branches of my tree).
