Suffolk / Re: Perkins / Deloubriere in Suffolk
« on: Wednesday 09 December 20 21:05 GMT (UK)  »
I've found the family of John Perkins who died in 2012 and unfortunately it's not the one I'm looking for. Still on the search for John Perkins born 1921 in Hackney, trained as a chef. Parents John Perkins b1889 and Marie Louise Berthe Deloubriere born in France 1898.

I'm a bit late coming to this post, but if you're still struggling please note that the border between Sussex and Hampshire moved (can't remember exactly when). My Bettesworth ancestors came originally from Westbourne which was in West Sussex, but the line moved making it Westbourne, Hampshire. This could be why the area on the documents changed. Hope this isn't too late to help.

Suffolk / Perkins / Deloubriere in Suffolk
« on: Monday 24 August 20 04:23 BST (UK)  »
I have at last broken down a brick wall in my history but need to see if there are any descendants who might be willing to share information. John Perkins b1889 Herefordshire married Marie Louise Berthe Deloubriere (b1898) in Sallemelle, St Valery, Somme, France on 10 October 1919. They had a son John (Jack) Perkins born 1921. John snr died in 1980 in Southend on Sea, and I've just discovered Marie died in Blyth, Suffolk in 1983. There is a John Perkins born in 1921 who died in Ipswich, Suffolk on 17 January 2012 and I believe he might be the son of John and Marie. I would love to get in contact with any of John jnr descendants, or even John if he should still be alive. I have a lot of information regarding the Perkins family of Herefordshire who spread out to London, Wales, Northamptonshire and also some Warwickshire ancestors plus Ufton Court details.

Warwickshire / Re: John Perkins c1777 Hatton

There are a lot of Perkins in Hillmorton, Rugby, Warwickshire if you look at the Find A Grave site. They are an offspring of the Ufton Court, Berkshire Perkins family. One of the Hillmorton family (Edward not sure which one) went to America and got married in New Haven, Connecticut. Not sure if this helps. My Perkins I believe to be related to the Hillmorton group although they were in Herefordshire but only about 50 miles away from Hillmorton.

Hi, the Tracey you know I believe is my uncle's granddaughter so we are connected. Her mother is Pat (nee Bettesworth).

There's a John Edney in the 1841 census born on Hayling Island (yes I'm one of that huge family) and there's a baptism record for John Edney (mother Mary) 12 September 1819 North Hayling - no father listed. Looks like the latter might be your John (found this on FindMyPast site).

We have a lot of George's in our Bettesworth's my grandfather had approximately 25 children and he was a George, but he wasn't born until 1854.

As mentioned there are a lot of George's on FindMyPast but none seems to fit the bill. Have you considered John might have been a Bettesworth born in wedlock then something happened to George and Mary remarried an Edney? The child quite often got called by the new husband's name although there often wasn't a legal adoption.

The only George Bettesworth I can find in my records who might fit the bill is my great, great grandfather George Bettesworth who married Mary Ann Terrey (sometimes known as Ann). He's about the right age.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info please let me know.

Just for reference the Bettesworth's on Hayling originally came from Westbourne, in Sussex.

Cheers

Sue
Are you in touch with the Bettesworths that currently live on Hayling?  I am in contact with Tracey who left the Hayling School in 1983, if that's any help to you?

Travelling People / Re: Cluer - Romanies in Hampshire?
« on: Saturday 26 July 08 11:32 BST (UK)  »
I don't know about the Romany part of Jedida but I agree a lot of her descendants, including myself, have sallow skin and dark hair. I am descended from Jedida and William - they are my great, great, great grandparents and they have a multitude of descendants as most of them had large families. My own grandfather George Bettesworth b 1854 had 24 or 25 children, we keep finding more each time we look.
Which one of the children of Jedida are you descended from? I'm descended from their son George and his wife Mary Anne Terrey.
I can share my family tree with you if you wish. It's dreadfully out of date, but most of the Bettesworth (or Betsworth, Betesworth, Betisworth - they kept changing the spelling) family are there.
Sue (nee Bettesworth)

Cork / Irish research - Cork
« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 09:20 GMT (UK)  »
To date all my research has been in England and Scotland, I'm not sure how to go about looking in Ireland. I have a relative by marriage who was born in Cobh (Cove) Queenstown - Cork in 1900. Her name was Jenny Webster and she married a Sidney Bettesworth in Ireland possibly in the early 1920's. Sidney was from Hampshire and was serving in either the navy or army at the time. I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction for research. Thanks
Sue
