Cheshire Lookup Requests / Stockport St Mary - Memorial Inscriptions - Help!
« on: Tuesday 20 August 13 11:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if some kind soul is able to look up two memorial inscriptions (if they survived they may be on the same memorial) for Stockport St Mary.  The persons concerned are:-

Thomas Taylor of Bramhall buried on 22nd February 1798.

Mary Taylor of Bramhall buried on 11th May 1796.

I am particularly interested in any other names and details that appear on the memorial.  This could be the breakthrough that I have been waiting for the past 10 years... but then again...

Thank you.

Nick

Cheshire / Bollen [Bollin] Mills, Wilmslow - Does anyone know where in Wilmslow?
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 18:25 GMT (UK)  »
Please help if you can.

Jonathan Roylance of Wilmslow, miller. Property: Bollen [Bollin] Mills, with the Drying Kiln and the Mill House, with appurtenances; for fourteen years.

Above details of a lease for a mill in or near Wilmslow.  I come from the area but have no idea where this mill may have been.  Does anyone know and is there anything left of the original buildings?

Thanks, Nick.

Dear All.

Has anyone got a copy of Keith's book who would be able to check if Thomas Taylor of Sandbach features therein as a Clockmaker?

England / Parish Records of Marriage Banns - What can I expect to see realistically?
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 19:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am considering examining some Marriage Banns records that I have identified do exist on film but may cause me significant time and effort to obtain a look ( I know - when doesn't anything connected with this damned hobby?).

However, before I embark upon my quest, as I know I will, I was wondering what I can realistically expect to find.  I know records are likely to vary in their extent from parish to parish but it would be useful, for example, to know if it was customary to record actual place of residence (nearby village or hamlet) or just to record "of this parish".

Also what else have others uncovered using these records?

England / Parish Registers versus Registry Office Records?
« on: Saturday 20 August 11 00:05 BST (UK)  »
I wonder has anyone found discrepancies between details given on scanned copies (certificates) of BMD entries provided from a Registry Office and the corresponding entry found in the actual Parish record entered at the time of the ceremony by the Minister?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Mary SWETTENHAM - Burial/MI anyone please?
« on: Sunday 31 July 11 19:52 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a burial or MI for Mary SWETTENHAM.  Mary was the wife of John SWETTENHAM Innkeeper/Yeoman of Middlewich.  They were married in 1717 shortly after the death of Mary's first husband who was James PARROTT, Salt Merchant of Middlewich.

It is Mary I am interested in really not 2nd husband John.  I want to try and nail her age at death and try and work out her maiden name somehow.  My aim is to find a James PARROTT = Mary ???? Marriage.

Any help or ideas appreciated.

Thanks, Nick.

Cheshire / Barlow of Bramhall/Poynton/Woodford area.
« on: Thursday 28 July 11 18:16 BST (UK)  »
By any chance does anyone have a record of a Barlow ancestor from the Bramhall/Poynton or Woodford area who married or had a strong family connection with a Taylor (from anywhere) sometime prior to 1841.

This is a long shot and I am really clutching at straws.  I can expand and explain the reasons why I am asking - if pressed - and if you feel you have the time - however, I don't really want to go on and on with a seemingly rambling tale that will probably only serve to convince everyone here that my wife is correct whenever she rolls her eyes, taps her index finger on her temple and mutters "whatever you think dear, do you want another cup of tea?"

Thank you.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / William Taylor - Buried Cheadle?
« on: Monday 16 May 11 18:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Research indicates that William Taylor was buried at Cheadle, Cheshire on 29/12/1825.  Available reference RG4-0536 suggesting non-conformist   My educated guess would favour Dean Row Chapel.

Can anyone confirm this, offer alternative suggestion or offer MI?  Any help is much appreciated.

Cheshire / Josiah BARLOW - Bredbury 1841 Census.
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 17:34 GMT (UK)  »
Help please!!!

I found Josiah BARLOW in the 1841 living in Bredbury and recorded as 'Irsiah'.  He is living with wife Betty (nee TAYLOR) and children + a women whom I believe to be his mother-in-law also Betty TAYLOR aged 70 years give or take.

I am interested to find out when Betty (senior) died and what became of the others.  I can't seem to find them at all in future census returns.

Thank you.
