That's really early and not alot of records exist from that timeframe, but where did Helen get married  I'll guess that they weren't Roman Catholic.

I have the obit from the paper.  It's rather long, so if you send me a message, I'll email it to you.  Also, in honour of Remembrance Day, Uxbridge has hung banners on main street with photos of local men who served in WWI or WWII. One is for a Roger "Keith" Hope.  If he is one of yours, I can stop and get a picture and forward it as well.

Will do. In the meantime, from the Port Perry Library site, I know an obit exists:

Hope Thomas Jan 31, 1913 Death 86yrs. P.P.S. Feb 5, 1913
Hope Thomas Jan 31, 1913 Death 86yrs., 8m. N.O.O. Feb 6, 1913

From familysearch:

From 1679 to 1993, most vital records for Québec were copies of church records. The province required churches to send copies to government archives. On 1 January 1994, the government began to keep separate vital records. Vital records could be registered civilly without a church record as early as 1926. Beginning in the 1960s, many births and marriages were recorded only in civil registers.

I have access at the Uxbridge library so will check the next time I get there; hopefully, in the near future.

There were no civil records in Quebec at the time -- the church was the keeper of all records.

Edward's 2nd marriage record gives his mother's maiden name as Boyne and that his father was born in Dublin.

Armagh / Re: Isaac Gillespie

The 1881 census records actually says "encaustic tile layer" so I think you have a match.  So, now there are two sisters to try and track down; ie, marriages; should give you more details about their parents and perhaps a more specific birth place.

I believe Teresa is in the 1901 Irish Census living in Dublin, aged 40, unmarried, a dressmaker. Says she is a Methodist and was born in Co. Armagh.  By 1911, she is living back in Co. Armagh, aged 50, single, now a Presbyterian, and a seamstress.  Living in Gaol Square, Armagh.

Griffiths shows a John Gillespie on Ogle Street, Armagh; landlord is a Mrs. C.M. Luke.
