Thanks for the information.

I was confusing this marriage with Hannah's previous one in 1775! Should have checked :-[ !!!!

Still no wiser about his birth/baptism although I did find a Jowett baptism at Thornton by Bradford in Oct 1737 with John Jowett as the father but no christian name for the male infant. Does that mean anything to anyone?

Thanks,

DJNicholson.

Reached a complete dead-end, can anyone help with his birth (c. 1730-1750), somewhere in Yorkshire?

He was a coal miner and was married to a widow, Hannah Clayton, in 1755 at St. Mary's Woodkirk.  They had two children, John and Rachel, before his death in 1783.

Possible fathers name John Jowett.

Hope somebody can help please!

DJNicholson.

Jeremiah Coward of Skelwith Bridge (1789-1871) is my g/g/g/ grandfather.  His father was John Coward, originally from Lowick, who became a Miller at Skelwith Bridge.  John Coward married Hannah Mason at Grasmere in 1769.  Jeremiah was the youngest of eight children. He took over the mill at Skelwith Bridge (now "Chesters") and converted it to a Bobbin Mill which his son Jackson Coward ran after his death.  Other Bobbin Mills under the Coward family management were Stott Park, Finsthwaite and Low Briery, Keswick.  His daughter Susannah (my g/g/ grandmother) and her husband Thomas Eyers ran the Bobbin Mill at Crooklands.
