Armagh / Isabella Gilpin dob abt 1858 Armagh
« on: Friday 30 April 21 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've posted this before and got some amazing information from the group.  I've hit another wall so thought I'd try again.  I strongly believe that my great grandmother, Isabella Gilpin, born around 1858 in Armagh (possibly Portadown) is the daughter of William Verner Gilpin.  I just cannot prove it since birth records are not available that early online.  I believe she is because on her death certificate (March 1915 in Connecticut, USA) her father is listed as Wm V. Gilpin.  Her obituary mentions a brother David and James, both the names of two of William Verner's sons.  I just want to have something more definitive if possible, otherwise I feel like I'm speculating.  I've tried twice to obtain her marriage certificate in the hopes it would list her father's name.  Using the NY Health Department index on Ancestry, I believe she was married in Queens to Thomas Wilson in 1891.  Both requests have turned up no records.  NY Health sent me to NYC and NYC sent me back to the NY Health Department!  I was hoping a marriage cert would have been my proof.

So back to square one on trying to prove out that she is in fact a daughter of Wm Verner.  If anyone has her in your tree or access to any church records, I assume Methodist.  I'd appreciate your assistance.  Thank you,

Laura

Hi

Yes, I agree.  I was very excited at first and then with further research realized that the connection was not the same.  Thank you so much for responding!

Hi All,
With Covid etc...I finally just heard back from the City of New York Department of Records & Information Services for my request for the marriage certificate referenced in Ancestry (per eileenwilson's note above - Isabella Gilpin to Thomas Wilson 10/8/1891 Astoria, NY Number 17410).  They came back and said that they could not find a record.  Well it must exist if Ancestry has it indexed, right?...I need help with NY.  They searched Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Richmond.  Did I go to the wrong place?  I assumed Astoria was Queens.  Should I go to the NY State Dept of Health Vital Records?  Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Monaghan / Sabinae Mulligan Emartis County Monaghan
« on: Friday 14 August 20 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Curious if anyone may have any information on Sabinae Mulligan b. approx 1768, Drumloughlin, Emartis, County Monaghan.  Father possibly Bryan Mulligan (b. 1740 ish).  She married Mattias (Matthew) McManus date ukn and had at least 7 children all born in St. Peter's Athlone, Roscommon.  First born child born in 1791 and through 1808.  Her date of death may have been 1810 ish.

Any information or if anyone has the ability to look up parish records in Emartis as early as 1768 (online records do not go as far back on the NLI site), I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,
Laura

Tipperary / Judy or Johanna Callaghan born Cashel and Emly Tipperary
« on: Monday 10 August 20 18:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Looking to see if anyone has information on or has Judy (maybe Johanna) Callaghan in their tree?  I believe she would have been born around 1814 in Cashel/Emly Tipperary.   Cannot find any birth information as the NLI records for Cashel/Emly are missing 1814 births.  She married Thomas Dwyer in 1833 in Upperchurch and Drombane Tipperary.  They had 10 children that I can find ranging from 1833 (Winifred, my 2nd great grandmother) through 1856.  Winifred was in Connecticut, married and had a child by 1855.  So at some point after that, some of the rest of the family including Judy and perhaps Thomas emigrated to Syracuse, NY where she died in 1880.  I'm trying to find her in NY without much luck but do have a few leads.  Curious if anyone has any information on her or Thomas in Ireland?

Thanks,
Laura

Cork / Murty Hourihane DOB 1817 in Question
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 16:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Was hoping for a few additional sets of eyes on this Skibbereen parish record below from November 2, 1817.  I have been going off the assumption (and cannot remember why bc I have no actual proof) that my Murty Hourihane (I have been researching) who married Mary Barry in Caheragh in 1858 was born November 2, 1817 (and died in 1877) to Wm Hourihane and Joanna Sheehan based on the parish entry.  However, this puts Murty 16 years older than Mary (dob 1833) which in itself doesn't mean anything, it is possible.  But I'm thinking now that I've been reading the entry wrong and it says Wm. Minihane not Hourihane.  Would love your opinions.  My Murty's marriage record to Mary does not say where he is from.  I've always just assumed it was Skibbereen based on family lore.  The entry is the first one on the page.

Cork / Ellen Mahoney from Blarney?
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 16:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Wondering if anyone might have Ellen Mahoney Barry (dob abt 1811??) in their trees.  I've been working this family and trying to prove out that the Ellen Mahoney who married Edward (Ned) Barry (marriage date ukn) and had at least two children born in Caheragh Cork:  James - 1832 and Mary (1833-1916 -  Mary married Murty Hourihane in Caheragh 1858), is the daughter of Martin Mahoney (1764 (possibly at Dromore Castle Kerry) dod 1834).  This Marin would be the same Martin that ran the Mahoney Bros Mills in Blarney which later became the Blarney Woollen Mills.  He had a daugher, Ellen with second wife Maria Reynolds around 1811.  I have some information that leads me to this path (honestly just another person's tree which doesn't have a ton of proof attached) but want to try and come up with a connection.  Thanks in advance.
