Buckinghamshire / Giltrow Family-New Bradwell

Looking for information on the Giltrow family, they ran the Cuba pub on Newport Rd, New Bradwell for a number of years in the late eighteen/early nineteen hundreds. I believe that there were at least 17 children and that six sons served in WW1, one of whom, Frank, was KIA in Gallipoli.

Thanks in advance

Hi Diane,

Did you find Top Street? If not I can go and see if they have any maps at CMK library. My paternal grandparents lived in Wallace St until the early 1970's, my granddad was the Co Op milkman for a number of years.

World War One / Re: How do I find a relative's regiment in WW1
« on: Tuesday 15 November 05 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Without more to go on it could prove quite difficult to track down his regiment. The medal cards at the National Archives show 93 Richard Shaws of which only 2 are Richard J, but there are many that do not show a second initial. Of the two Richard J's, one served with the Army Service Corps and the other with the Yorkshire Regiment.
If you know where he lived at the time of the 1918 general Election you could try your local or County library to see if he was listed as an absent voter, as I have been told that for absent voters in the forces the regiment was shown.
Do you not have anything else to go on?

John

I will be up the library anyway, I work not far from it, so I'll have a look. The date range would be Ok, ie Charles born C1838 and his son 1859, and living on own means could cover a multitude of sins, if he was an artist selling his work could this not be classed as LOWM?

Hi

Do you think this might be your man;

Charles Smyth
Age at time of census: 63
Born: Londonderry
Living: London
Occupation: Living on own means

If you think this might be him I can visit the local library to look at the full entry.

Let me know

Dublin / George McDonagh-Finglas
« on: Sunday 06 November 05 17:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for any information on George McDonagh or his family.

He was born, probably in the 1890's, and lived in Finglas and was killed in action on 5 July 1916 in France while serving as Private 20811, 9th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

Thanks

IanC
