The Common Room / Ancestry subscription discounts - help!
« on: Sunday 07 March 21 09:26 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning

I’m trying to use the discount for Ancestry subs that has been used over the past few years but with the link that was given it only seems to offer a 6 month and I know I got a 12 month one last year but can’t work out how I did it!

I’d be really grateful for some help...

Thanks
Caroline

The Stay Safe Board / Diary - Thursday 4th March

We’re now coming up to nearly a year from when we were all required to stay at home and the first lockdown....
I’m wondering whether we’re all becoming a little weary ....
when you write every day about what you’re doing you begin to realise that it’s all so repetitive and dull....
was life similar before only we’ve not noticed or are we truly floundering around...
I’m beginning to ask myself these questions....
I enjoy the views of others and how each country seems to be coping with every new situation that’s thrown at us, but I am beginning to wonder how ‘normal’ life will be when all restrictions are lifted....

My day, yesterday now, was pretty much the same as every other at the moment...
The weather was dull, drizzly not enticing you outside at all...
The highlight of the day was the repair chap who came at 4.15 to fix the washing machine... some test washing done and thankfully it made the noise... shock absorbers was the problem, soon fixed and my did it sound a lot quieter afterwards!
Along with a chat on the doorstep with a friend who brought some shopping for me those were the highlights of the day...
Dinner was just spaghetti with sauce from the freezer and we did succumb to a glass of wine...
Hope that others had a better day...
Thoughts to Viktoria who is off for tests, hope all goes well and they sort you out...
Good wishes to all other ‘friends’ on the diary too...

The Common Room / Findmypast discounts?
« on: Monday 01 March 21 10:17 GMT (UK)  »
Morning fellow RC’s...

My membership for FindMyPast finished on 25th Feb and I was disappointed to see that even with the 15% discount offered I’m still having to pay £135+ .... last year I managed £98.60... I must have used a discount code from somewhere...

I wondered if anyone has any insights into whether there are any discounts available anywhere?

Look forward to hearing from you many thanks in advance..

Caroline

PS - it was a Pro membership I had..

As no one else has started I’ll begin!

Firstly to be woken at 6.30am by a squawking male pheasant was not something I’d expected nor was I amused!
It’s a beautiful bird that struts around the garden and then jumps over our fence into the neighbours garden to eat all the seed that gets thrown on the lawn.... then I was next woken by my neighbour rattling around with their bins... I put my head under the pillow and managed to sleep for a bit longer...
Once I was finally up the day was beautiful... a little chilly early on though.
After breakfast OH had a zoom with his golfing buddies....
I decided I’d make a card for my friend who had the accident... I’d already send her an e-card message. I found just what I was looking for on Pinterest so set about creating it...
Our daughter phoned for a chat... just her which was nice although we love to see the boys but they were in the park with dad. She said they all been for a test on Friday as one of the boys friends was tested positive and they’d all been playing together in the park .. fortunately they’re all ok which is a relief as they’ll be back at school a week on Monday.... they’ve decided to put the boys in bunk beds together in T’s big bedroom, they seem to sleep better when they’re together... they spent all half term in T’s room!
It will mean J’s room can be used as an office which will be much better for them going forward...
I called my friend J to see how she was feeling... said it was very painful... they were nearly back home when it happened and she wasn’t concentrating.... luckily it happened near a small industrial complex and the people there were wonderful... ambulance  were going to take for ever so the people there stored their bikes, drove them home ( all safely as the people are tested every day) and then her hubbie drove her to hospital... couldn’t go in with her though ... she was in and out within 4 hours. This is same damage another friend did 8 weeks ago when she slipped down some icy steps!
After lunch we’d decided to clean both cars... last time that was done I did both inside and out last year! OH used the karcher and once he’d finished I vacuumed the insides and cleaned the glass... mine was still pretty clean as it’s hardly been used!
It was lovely to be out in the sunshine... so I continued with cleaning all the downstairs windows ... must be mad!
We then watched the rugby we’d recorded.... Italy v Ireland... not the most inspiring game so a lot got fast forwarded!
Then England v Wales.... so many penalties England got... two of the Welsh tries were a bit controversial too... England certainly weren’t playing their best and I think Wales seemed much keener!
Our shopping delivery arrived about 6.30 and everything swiftly dealt with....
Dinner was usual steak, chips etc cooked by OH..
Watched tv...
Had an early night as both felt tired...

That’s it for today...look forward to reading others days

The Stay Safe Board / Diary Wednesday 24th February

Well as I’m on a roll and no one else has started I thought I would...

Today was a lovely warm sunny day and after breakfast and sorting out my next shopping delivery list I phoned our friends in Cirencester and we had a good chat... having closed their nursery down last year they’ve been busy reorganising their house... the nursery part is now a lovely apartment that when it’s allowed will be an Airbnb, now the gardens getting a makeover by removing all the play area they had and pond installed and vegs plots too...we finished chatting by hoping we’d be able to meet up at a NT place in April...
Next I put my exercise kit on and did over an hour of yogalates... felt good to do all that stretching and exercising... by the time I’d finished it was lunch time!
After lunch I sorted out gifts for my friend ( works at Gatwick) M’s 70th birthday on Tuesday... I had sent direct to her a flexible stand to hold her phone when she’s on video calls like the one I got my daughter for Christmas... I also organised to have national garden vouchers sent to her too.... the post came and I received a lovely card from her thanking us for all the support whilst she was ill with covid recently... I decided to give her a call... she says she’s 100% better and she certainly looked it... I told her she’d be getting stuff in the post and not to open until her birthday... we had a good chat and she mentioned her garden was looking a mess and she needed to sort it out so I felt quite pleased I’d decided to send her garden vouchers...
OH actually mowed the lawns today for the first time... they look so nice now they’ve been done bit like a good hair cut after looking all unkept... bit like my hair at the moment!
I did some cooking and then had a shower...
We had game of scrabble .... I’m now just one down!
Dinner was spaghetti
Watched tv... landscape artist... I liked the painting that won this week...only one I wasn’t too keen on but by and large the others were all reasonable ..
Late to bed...
So nice to see all the spring flowers coming out... we’ve got quite a few clumps of miniature daffodils and lots of snowdrops, primulas and others starting to show... sadly looks like the muntjac have eaten the leaves from the tulips in the front bed again!
Could be shorts weather in the next day or too!

Hope others have been able to enjoy some better weather too..

Well in our part of the country the weather had turned back to a grey sky and some intermittent drizzle... gone was the sunshine from the day before...

After breakfast I put on my exercise kit and I did an hours worth of yogalates...my goodness I hadn’t realised how inactive I’ve been over the last few months .. I’m going to suffer tomorrow I’m sure... still it was good to do..
Had a nice hot shower and washed my hair ..... really need a hairdresser it’s getting too thick and needs a good cut...
Cleared away the rest of the shopping that’s been isolating in the garage and put away all the washing I’d done the day before...
Lunchtime.... em someone was supposed to have been making bread.... small bit left but thankfully I’d got some pitta bread in the freezer!
Walked up the lane to pop a card and pressie through my friends door on time for her birthday on Wednesday... it was very mild out about 9C..
Read my book for a while and then we had a game of scrabble... OH not impressed that I used all my tiles up on the first go scoring an extra 50 points!... in the end I did win but not by a huge margin...
oH’s back and side been very uncomfortable resulting in him taking some ibuprofen.... so I know it’s not good when he does that.... thankfully not bad enough for codeine yet...
Dinner was of course pancakes... savoury ones... they’re very filling...I’d used the last of the mince I’d bought from my internet purchases... very tasty,
Watched some tv...
Bed to read...

Not a very exciting day... can’t wait to go out to Lidl’s on Thursday.... been nearly 5-6 weeks since I last went food shopping! How dad to be looking forward to food shopping!
Hope others have enjoyed the day with brighter weather...

Well thought I’d start today’s as I’ve not posted for the last few days... I’ve read everyone’s posts but to late to respond to all that’s been said...
felt quite down  so not been worth writing...

Today was pretty much the same as the last few days...
mixed weather....
shopping delivered on Thursday.... drove to the post office to post grandsons card for next week and my DiL’s to Oz for mid March birthday in the hope it’ll get to her in time....
Played some games of scrabble and won, lost, won.... so think we’re back to me being four games up...
Watched England v Scotland rugby match... couldn’t believe how badly they played loosing the Calcutta cup after 38 years... spent a lot of time shouting at the tv and the ref who was so biased it wasn’t true...,
Consoled ourselves by watching The Plank... anyone remember that with Eric Sykes, Tommy Cooper, Jimmy Edwards and a few others.... it made us laugh!
Other than that not much else going on....
Washing machine decided to have a moment when it was spinning and made most dreadful noise... as has our boiler aged five years! Think it’s the pump ... if it is and needs a new one that will be the third in the five years.... chap coming on Monday....
Previous boiler lasted 30+ years.... just hope it doesn’t konk out with cold weather looming...
Not much else to add really... think I’m going to have to get back to sewing my 🌈 scrubs on Monday as they’re crying out for them!

Hope others days have been better...

Thought I’d get in quick.... maybe...

Today was D day or vaccination day should I be exact!...
Weather was chilly, dull and cloudy...
After a late breakfast O.H got organised to go and have his jab...
In the mean time I had a chat with a friend I’ve not spoken to for a while...
it rained, hailed, snowed then the sun came out! Wired weather...
OH returned... very impressed with the organised at the centre he went to. Lots of volunteers and all very helpful... in out in about 25 minutes including waiting time...
After lunch I spent the afternoon doing more research... quite got the bug back now!... more on maternal grandmothers side....
dinner was sausages from our delivery yesterday... they were very meaty but crumbly and not dense and a good flavour...
We watched The White Tiger in Netflix...
A couple of glasses of wine and a sloe gin from 2017 made by a friend and now to have a good nights sleep...
Hope the day has been ok for others too...
