The Stay Safe Board / Re: Diary < Saturday 25 April
« on: Sunday 26 April 20 00:00 BST (UK)  »
Slept like a log last night... could be because I'd slept so badly the previous night...
Weather was dull and cloudy, it makes such a difference to ones outlook too and the garden looked dull ...
Usual breakfast... cereal, fruit and yogurt...
Didn't feel too brilliant have devoloped tooth ache which started yesterday afternoon and have taken some paracetamol to dull ache... just what I need st the moment..
Sat and finished my book as it's got to go back to the library... that's the ebook library I use very good just like borrowing books from the normal library..
OH had his Saturday morning Zoom with his golf buddies... good for him to have some male chatter, he's not been out, apart from walks and bike rides since we were told to stay in... I at least have been to shop so get away from four walls...
Had usual lunch..
Sun out and sky blue by now so we decided we needed a walk to shake off that lethargic feeling..
Today we decided to do a longer walk so we did 6 miles round the fields and the two small hamlets and home.. not done it for a while and it was lovely to see the trees all in leaf, mayflower out and bluebells... next time we'll walk through the woods to see the bluebell carpet. Not too many card around today seemed much quieter.
We both felt much better and had a well deserved cuppa..
Just sat down when daughter messaged to see if we wanted a Zoom with them...
So lovely to see them, even if we can't give them a hug..
They all seem happy which is a relief and daughter relaxed and smiling which is great as she does suffer with stress... SiL looks very tired though, his job very demanding and not much relief with schooling boys too between them. Boys flitted in and out showing us bits they'd made etc...
Off for a shower so as not to seize up
OH BBQ steaks ... I love this time of the year as he enjoys cooking outside and we have lots of lovely salads... looking forward to eating our own vegs in coming months..
Watched some tv... lovely programme on Matisse.

Another day gone by... hope this tooth ache doesn't get any worse as not sure what I'll do... try the dentists on Monday... not sure if they're open though.

Take care all... Viktoria hope your gout improves soon for you

Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear of everyone's woes today... I'm feeling quite depressed now...

My day... same as all the rest I suppose, sun shining .. not up particularly early ... usual breakfast...
to be honest I can't remember what I did this morning it must have been that dull... oh yes sorted out the drawers in the freezer to see what's in them.. very exciting.
Yesterday had a mail from a friend in the village to say her DiL who works in a hospital in Norwich I think has been asking for bags for scrubs,, now apparently they've enough but need headbands with large buttons for elastic on masks to go over to stop their ears rubbing...
Got quite a stash of fabric so cut out two pillow cases that will make 21 headbands.... 25mm elastic like gold dust... found some in my sewing box but will need more..
OH pottered in the garden, he decided it was too hot for a walk and his knee giving him jip...
Played scrabble.. score now 4 games all
Had lunch usual sandwich.
Decided to join FB local hospitals for the love of scrubs...
Sat out enjoyed the sunshine in the garden... don't think we've sat and chatted so much for a long time since all this isolation started!
Watched daily briefing... getting bit fed up with it as it's pretty much same every day...
Dinner tonight was salmon cooked in foil on the BBQ and salad..
Watched some rubbish tv
Bed and a read

Looking forward to catching up with daughter and boys over the weekend so something to look forward to and son in Brisbane early next week.

Take care all

The Stay Safe Board / Diary:- Thursday 23rd April
« on: Thursday 23 April 20 23:37 BST (UK)  »
I thought I'd start this one off although I know some people may have added today's to yesterday.....
in the great scheme of things does it matter?....

Today up with the lark... well nearly lovely sunshine, the birds singing, the garden looking beautiful... if only someone else could see it!

Breakfast, shower... OH got up whilst I was getting ready to go out...

Went to PO first posted two lovely T shirts I bought for the boys to give them at Easter, they've got all the planets on and they glow in the dark... I bought them one each last year and the three of us had to squeeze into their downstairs loo turn off the light so we could see them glowing.... sadly they'll have to do that bit on their own this time..😢☹️

Next the butchers.. luckily I was the only person in there and the PO so that worked out well

Next I drove into Lidls car park and out again too many people so went to Waitrose for my C & C all very smooth in and out in about 10 mins...
back to Lidls... shorter queue, one in one out ended up standing behind my neighbour so we chatted 2 metres apart whilst we waited to go in... too many men on their own in there with no idea how to wait for person in front to move so ended up almost in some of the racking to keep distance from them... along with another lady and we did have a smile... men totally oblivious! Honestly ..

Once home put shopping away something that took about 10 minutes to do seemed to take an age... washing in soapy water what I could... wipe with antibacterial other things and rest left on the bench in the garage to fight amongst themselves whilst in isolation...

Lunch time... sandwich... washing out..

OH on hand and knees edging the path... comes in and put ice pack on his knee as he shouldn't really be kneeling down! Said I'd have done it for him but he couldn't wait  for me to finish what I was doing!

Delivered shopping round to my other neighbours stood distance away and had catch up with them

Sat in the garden with a cuppa and read for a while...

Watched briefing... better today.. media questions not as dumb as some days.
BBQ marinated pork chops with salad and nice glass of wine.
Out at 8pm to clap along with others then some tv and bed to read.

Felt better today.. OH seemed in better frame of mind too despite trying to find some creakote for the fence and shed... only place that had it was Wickes and they're not open!

Hope everyone else has had a better day too...
Still surprised at amount of traffic around and more people...

Night all

Awoke to lovely warm sunshine filtering round the sides, topand bottom of bedroom blind... reallymade me feel like getting up....

Usual breakfast of cereal, fruit and yogurt... OH up late didn't speak to him, he's quite stressed out being cooped up and I left him to himself and went and did the ironing in my work/craft room... my space to escape to sometimes.

Had a late lunch usual sandwich, he'd gone up to his shed and vegs beds, I started to do some gardening and sweep patio, sunshine was lovely, it's made a difference being able to get outside and not be in the house.... to hot to go for a walk but have been busy.

Had long chat on the phone with friend in the village whom I'd not spoken to for a while... blackbird flew into the conservatory as I'd got the doors open...
OH came and rescued it fortunately it didn't make too much mess poor thing but it flew off quite happily.

Sat out for a while with  a cuppa then watched daily briefing... think I'm going to have to stop watching them as I'm finding it quite stressful...
went to start dinner, Thai green chicken curry tonight, I make it all from scratch, it's quite easy to make green paste bung all ingredients in a blender and it's done.

Daughter FaceTimed us as eldest grandson wanted to show us the 500 piece jigsaw that took him two days to finish before it got all put away again, had a lovely chat with him and the youngest one too he showed us the toilet roll holder he'd put up with dad at the w/e was still on the wall and working well! they'd found some charcoal in the garden and drawn a picture to show us.

Daughter and eldest one go out running every day they're up to 5k... he's not 7 yet but good runner.

They're having a difficult week too not helped by Tesco delivery ... chap had apparently had to break hard and three of the milk bottles had split and spilt the milk... she wasn't too happy they can't replace to busy so just going to refund... not a lot of use as they need the milk!

She said eldest grandson was upset because he's missing all us grandparents and he's worried about when they'll see us all as he misses us... he's such a sweetie and a really thoughtful, kind little boy... we miss them too..

Dinner, spent time writing an article for our village Newsletter that is now emailed to everyone...
Watched tv then bed...
Tomorrow I'm going to collect the shopping and go to post office and butchers yipeeee.. highlight of the day and get away from the house..

Keep safe all and stay sane... finding it hard

RTL and Pharma you both deserve medals for your work in these times. It must be very daunting and stressful going every day not quite knowing how things will be. I hope you all get the recognition you deserve.

I shall think again when I throw away cauliflower and broccoli stalks now! I do sometimes slice broccoli stalks up and cook but never thought of using them in soup.... having said that I do use the stalks of both coriander and parsley and they do add flavour. Daughter bought me a HFW book and I've made some recipes from it but not for a while... have to have another look at it I think.

My day started as usual... not to early but I did hear the bin men fairly early and my bedrooms at the back of the house so it must have been noisy in the front bedroom!

Usual breakfast of cereal, fruit and yogurt then into my keep fit clobber, onto FB for live Yogalates class from our teacher... good to stretch and exercise felt great afterwards.

Lunch usual sandwich, then another change and a drive to Waitrose to pick up wine I'd ordered the other day... in a 3 mile journey 20 cars passed me... by the time I got to the roundabout the traffic seemed like it used to be and Waitrose car park pretty full... as I was C & C I didn't have to queue just went to welcome desk showed relevant paper work standing required distance and was out of shop in about 5 minutes...

OH decided he'd go out on his bike... I'm not that confident going on roads and first one out would be downhill... only learnt to ride a bike in my 60's and anyway it would do him good to be out by himself for a while, we're not used to being together all the time so need some space!
I sat in the sunshine and read my book Tidelands by Philippa Gregory, quite enjoying it so far...
Cuppa when OH returned then we played scrabble and now score is 4-3 to him ☹️
Time for shower, dinner had BBQ then watched daily briefing we'd recorded.

We belong to our village investment club although quite a few not from village, usually meet once a month in local pub decide on shares to buy and sell & have a meal.... this month novelty having it via Zoom... took a while to get those that could manage it to come on stream but nice to see everyone and catch up... having lost all our shares when things first took a tumble we decided to venture back in to buying a few and see how it goes.... hopefully couldn't get any worse..🤞.

Watched some tv, then bed to read.... not done that yet as writing this!

Another day gone....

Take care.... could there be a slight glimmer yet at the end of this extraordinary long tunnel....

Woke at 4am... as I've been trying to get a c & c slot for Waitrose and so far not succeeded I thought I'd try as who else would be daft enough to do it at that time! Well I was lucky and had a choice so took one for Thursday! I then added some items to the basket before going back to sleep...

still woke earlier than usual so had a read before getting up for breakfast at the same time as OH which is unusual as I'm always up before him!

After General tidy up,making beds, sorting bins out for bin collection I thought I'd do some kitchen stuff... deboned yesterday's chicken, usually make stock from the carcass but got plenty already in the freezer and can't fit any more in anyway... made some coleslaw with carrot, cabbage, red onion, radish, coriander, lemon juice, fat free Greek yogurt, pint nuts and sultanas, chilli flakes, & low cal Mayo all ready for chicken salad tonight. I also grated courgette and raw beetroot added lots of pepper and balsamic vinegar dressing.

Time for lunch! Usual sandwich ....

Neighbour arrived with few items she got for me from her shopping trip... had a chat on the doorstep... social distancing! Washed items.

Letter came for OH with parsnip, spring onion, beetroot and pea seeds sent from daughter and letter signed by grandsons so off he went to plant them, put up his poles ready for beans and hung CD's from wire over beetroot and radishes to stop those pesky pigeons eating them!

Lovely sunny afternoon so sat outside with my book for while...

Game of scrabble... score now three all!

Watched briefing..

Had dinner watched finals of university challenge we even got some of the answers... then we watched Bridge over the river Kwai made in 1957 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Part of it, hospital scene,  was filmed at the Mount Lavinia Hotel in Columbo where we'd stayed... looked quite different! Very nostalgic! Apart from the loud naff music the quality of the film was very good considering its age.

Retired to bed.
Another day gone and nothing really to show for it.. thank goodness the weathers good.

Keep safe and well

It's good to read others daily diaries and know that you're not alone when you either have restless nights, wake up late, have days of feeling unsettled... it helps to understand we're all in the same boat and our feelings are similar...
Sorry you've not had a good day Roobarb hope tomorrow is a better one for you...
Spent the morning reading the Sunday papers... reverted back to the Sunday times after last weeks trial with the Saturday telegraph..... I gave up reading the main paper as it's mostly doom and gloom or inaccurate reporting... by lunch time thought I ought to get dressed 😱
Usual sandwich ...
We decided it was a lovely day for a walk and off we set.. just got outside the front door into the garden when two cyclist riding by and one started shouting out OH's name.. caught us by surprise... it turned out to be someone who was in his department at school 30 yrs ago! We were gobsmacked anyway we had a chat, socially distancing of course, exchanging news and off we went for our walk over the fields...
once home cup of tea and listen to daily briefing...
Friend phoned had good chat with her, turns out that one of her employees father sadly died a couple of wks ago of covid19 he suffered from Parkinson's. Her husband had also got it but recovered but she was ok... it dies hit home when it's closer to you..
Had lovely roast chicken for dinner... seemed a bit odd given the weathers been so warm today!
Then had a FaceTime with close friends, it was great to 'see' them and catch up, you realise how much you miss the contact with friends... we decided we do it again.
Watched some tv and off to bed for a read...
Another day to tick off... west will tomorrow hold I wonder

Stay safe everyone and healthy

Awoke this morning to a dull and a little chilly. Still we need the rain as you say trystan as the garden looks  parched and new veg certainly need a little dousing!

Ah, the Chimp Paradox.... both OH and I have read it and it's quite frightening how you can identify with a great deal that it says! Interesting reading though in these current times.... hope you're enjoying it!

OH had his usual Zoom with his golf buddies and I could hear lots of laughter coming from the kitchen... so very good to hear we all need the company of others to cheer us up and a change from looking at just one other persons face.

I listened to another talk/lecture from the virtual Family Tree Live.. this one about using DNA alongside your family tree...

Decided that we would order some wine to C&C from Waitrose... it's unbelievable how long it took to do... we have Waitrose partnership account but it didn't like any of the passwords I put in and discovered that Waitrosecellar isn't the same as just Waitrose in terms of accounts....  so had to draw up a new one, once done it then took me two goes to pay... I'd almost lost the will to live and needed a glass of wine! 😤.

Lunch today was very naughty cheese on toast but we felt we deserved it!
Sadly just listened to the news and heard that sadly a further 888 lives lost today from hospital stats... it doesn't seem to be going down....

Heard today a friends mother having gone in to hospital after a fall and developing DVT and infected cellulite at the beginning of April now she's got covid19 and in intensive care, my friends not seen her for nearly 6 weeks as they were in Florida when she had the fall... it's not until you know someone's whose going through it that it really brings it home to you. Ontop of that her dad had a fall and broke his hip and is now in isolation just in case he's got it too!

Well we've got a Zoom with the family later this afternoon to look forward to seeing our grandsons smiling faces... wonderful.

The rest of the day will be ironing, reading, dinner, tv no bed!

Hope you've all had a better day.

Caroline

PS - had a lovely Zoom with the family eldest grandson was busy doing a 500 piece jigsaw that his other granny had sent him for Easter ( I was given strict instructions not to make a special trip to the post office by daughter so a) still have gifts I was sending here and b) felt terrible not sending boys anything 😤☹️) did put money in their accounts though and she got eggs from us for  them.... anyway when I go out on Tuesday to c n c going to go to PO! Then we watched youngest grandson helping dad with drilling and measuring and using level putting in raw plugs to fit new loo roll holder in the bathroom... he did very well... got a bit anxious when he was using the drill ... he was holding it with dad.... but all was well and looked chuffed when the job was done... he's only 4 but is a dab hand at taking things apart and putting them back together! Brightened us up no end to see them all...
