Sussex / Re: TURNER, John (Browning)
« on: Monday 20 November 17 08:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jennamar,

I am descendent from Henry James Browning Turner, though his youngest child Rosetta.  This family has been a bit tricky to track, and there are still some unanswered questions - unfortunately I have not had a lot of time to do further research lately.

Catpow and I made some breakthrough's together a couple years ago, so without her help I wouldn't have the information I have either!  As you may be aware, despite arriving in SA, some branches of the Turner family went to Victoria and even Broken Hill, but trying to prove they were all the same family was not straight forward.

If you have any questions I'm happy to share information.

Thanks for posting.  I'm not sure this is the one I'm after (although it could be possible that the person who told me got the location mixed up.... after all the mines would be only a few of kms apart from one another!)  The white coloured sandstone certainly is a match.

Hi,
It's a long shot but thought I'd ask on here......I'm trying to track down the location of a quarry between Aldgate and Mylor off of Strathalbyn Rd that was operational in the 1950's that delivered sandstone for house building in the local area.  I know there was a quarry in Aldgate township itself (closer to Stirling) but I'm not convinced this is the quarry I'm after.  I have had a look online without much success in finding any reference.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mel

London and Middlesex / Re: Wilson Place Spitalfields, Whitechapel

The address is from 1861 census.  I'm assuming the family stayed around the same area for a few years as the address for their first child who was born in 1853, is listed as Georges Yard, Whitechapel.

The geographical street changes and name changes do make it difficult to track down some locations.

Once again thankyou.

Thankyou very much.  What website are you referring to, to access that particular searchable map?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to track down the location Wilson place, Spitalfields.  I believe it is very close to Flower and Dean St but have not found a map with the actual location.  I'm not sure if there is one considering it is listed as a 'place' - perhaps it is too small?  Can anyone help?

Elizabeth was Mary's sister, the transcription I have been supplied of her baptism only lists John as a sailor.

Mary's record did offer more detail - John and Mary abode was Coomb Anthony near Newton Buschell, Devon. I have since managed to find out that Coomb Anthony is more than likely Combeinteignhead.  For Elizabeth's baptism, it does list Plaxtol as their abode however.

One of there youngest children, John, also baptised in Plaxtol in 1839 lists John as a labourer.  At some point between 1824 and 1839 John changes his occupation to Labourer (although it could have been as early as 1831, as listed in a birth records of his suspected son James in Maidstone).

So far looking at online records for Navy/Merchant seaman hasn't provided many possibilities.  I have an approx birth date for John Bray/Brey of 1789, Devonshire.

Kent / Plaxtol original parish records - Mary Brey 1821

Hello,

Does anyone have access to original images of Plaxtol parish registers?  I have a ancestor - Mary Brey baptised 28 Oct 1821, Plaxtol, parents John and Mary Brey.

John Brey was a sailor however, from the information I have received the record is ? unreadable for the part in which it states John was a sailor in ???.

It would be extremely useful to know if he was in the British Navy or other trade company.  I do not have access to the original images, can someone help please?

Regards Mel
