Hi. Thanks for the reply. I have got enough details from the 1861 census to be able to fill in most of the gaps to the present day.
The problem I am having is getting back before 1861.
I think I have traced Joseph Hart's father using the marriage records at Eldersfield .
I think it was:
 James Hart born  around 1793
             (baptised 12th may 1793,Eldersfield)
I can't figure out the female name.
He was the son of another James Hartwho married  Sarah Diar(widow)
also in Eldersfield on  3rd November 1791.
I can't see a baptism record for any siblings in Eldersfield.
Here is where I get stuck.
The marriage record states James was "of Chanceley"[/b]
A request on the Gloucester board pointed me to the church records from Chanceley but no Harts there that I can find so thats a dead end.
Presumably James was working in the Chanceley/Eldersfield area but where he was born is what cant find out at the moment.

Thank you. The above link has proved useful in allowing me to see that The Harts do not appear to be in evidence in Chanceley so back to the drawing board to find out where they were before 1791.looking further in the area around Eldersfield.

Is there any indication of his age in later records (e.g. burial) which might indicate a rough birthdate?

Sorry,no. All I know is that his wife Sarah, was listed as a widow and I can only find records of the birth of one child James (my 4xggfather) in Eldersfield 1793. So maybe they were a bit older when they married? or,equally, they could have had other children before they married who might be listed in Chaceley.

Hi. I have just discovered that my 5xggrandfather James Hart who married a Sarah Diar in Eldersfield in 1791 is listed as being " Of Chaceley"
Since I can find no more traces of the Harts in Eldersfield prior to 1791,I'm wondering if his baptism records (and /or other earlier records relating to the Hart family) may be recorded in parish records of St Johns church Chaceley.
I believe some of the church records from the 18th century may still exist but as boundaries shift and diocese aren't always the same as counties, could someone advise me where these records might be held? Glos archive? Worcs archive? a.n other?
Advice from anyone who knows the geography of this area (I don't!) about where to go next or who has access to these records would be much appreciated.

Thanks again. I do know that william Charles Hart married Gertrude weaver, not sure when exactly but the eldest of their 8 surviving children was louisa born 1885.My gran was Edith, their 6th child. The older children(Louisa, thomas, william, florence Eva, Edith) were born in Twyning Glos, the younger ones (james, Edward) in Halesowen between 1885 and 1897.I havent heard of Westbury but family folklore did mention him being a blacksmith and having something to do with making the railings of Halesowen churchyard.what I didnt know until you kindly reffered me to the 1861 census was the name of his parents as i have only just begun looking at this side of the family. I have also heard Berrow mentioned but dont know the geography of that area.

Hi, I'm searching for information on my g grandfather William Hart who I think was born in 1856 or 1858 in a place called Eldersfield (is this near Malvern?)  I believe he was the son of Joseph Hart (born  either Eldersfield or Berrow around 1843) and possibly Mary....but I haven't yet been able to confirm that.
Any help greatfully appreciated.
