im going by the transcription in family search -

Name    Louisa Kirknon
Event Type    Census
Event Date    1841
Event Place    Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales
Residence Note    Strand
Gender    Female
Age    16-20
Age (Original)    16
Birth Year (Estimated)    1825-1829

in 1851 swansea  census shes aged 20
marriage cert 1848 shows her as full age would 17/18 be classed as full age ? i know my gg grandmother married at 16 in 1876
starting to doubt if louisa kirknon is in fact our louisa phil what with the dob differences and the fathers christian names differing
maybe the dublin furriers arent connected to the limmerick cabinet makers ????????????????????????????????

Are you thinking that Louise's father is called Benjamin rather than Simon?

I wondered if the Portsmouth one might be connected to the Military or Indian one?

I have no idea though!
its benjamin on her wedding cert when she married samuel parker in swansea in 1848 and its not marked as deceased like on others i have
her maiden name on her daughters birth cert is kirchina
on her wedding cert in 1881to thomas hill her dob is given as 1833 father benjamin kischener
the gentleman in college is benjamin simon kirchner son of simon a leather tanner
keep hitting brick walls though ???

I wouldn't rule out Simon being Louisa's father because we have the widow Margaret Kirchner marrying Patrick Gahagan in Limerick and they show up in Swansea in 1841 with a girl in their household aged 16 called Louisa whose surname is transcribed 'Kirknon' - a totally unique surname!
That would make Louisa born sometime in 1824/5. When she married in May 1848 she is recorded as being 'of full age' so on that account the latest she could have been born was early in 1827.

Phil
the census records dates and her marriage cert to thomas hill put her dob more around  1830
simon and margaret had 2 daughters -elizabeth 1825 and rebecca 1826 so no room for louisa to have been born then
the 1841 census dob threw me until someone on here kindly told me that the age is rounded up or down by 5 years which could mean 1829
incidently ive just found elizabeth kirchner running a boarding school for young women in dublin throughout the 1840s
the only rebecca is a furrier in dublin but way too old to be simon and margarets daughter.

Have you noted or checked these? No other info at the moment though.

Benjamin Kirchner died 1811 buried St Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire

Benjamin Kirchner, death 1939, Chertsey, Surrey

If nothing else, they show that there were others of that name.
louisa was born around 1829 so that would rule out the hampshire death but the surrey one is possible - ive looked before but didnt get any leads from it

Hi Kath,

Is there evidence that he is the same Benjamin as yours?

I wonder if this is relevant?     Hospital Mate
Perhaps he was an assistant to a surgeon after all  ???

He was in india in 1809 so very likely
how on earth did you find that????????

thank you very much -i really appreciate your help
so very possibly the same person in college and in india
the dates match with my tree for louisa kirchner father but her wedding certificate of 1848 has him as a cabinet maker - he was only in india 3 years as his name is deleted and replaced in 1812 so maybe his stint in india put him off medicine
he must have been in ireland around 1829to father louisa but theres no sign of him and no sign of louisas birth

It would be more likely that there are 2 Benjamin Kirchners. I know our ancestors did change careers, but going from assistant surgeon to cabinet maker is a stretch.
Have you found any apprenticeship records? That is where a cabinet maker would have been trained.

Hi  thanks for your in put
he was a surgeons assistant (not an assistant surgeon as in my original post - sorry  )so a very low ranking job which could explain free education in the college which was reserved for lowest job training
ive tried looking for appreticeships but cant find anything in ireland nor britain
not sure where to go from here
