Canada Lookup Request / Ferris/Kidney in Proton Township
« on: Thursday 01 September 16 20:57 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on Thomas Ferris (1811-1872) and Elizabeth ("Eliza") Kidney (1826-1885).

Some online family trees suggest that he had an earlier marriage to Eliza Jane PERMAN. However, I have not been able to locate a marriage record for Elizabeth or Eliza to confirm if Thomas was a bachelor or widow.

Thomas first appears in the 1851 census in Wellesley, Waterloo County, and records suggest that he was born in Ireland. His wife, Jane, 30, could represent Eliza Jane Perman, but I have not been able to determine this through the children's later marriage/death records.

By 1861 Thomas and Elizabeth, 33, are living in Nassagaweya and by 1871, Proton Township. Online family trees suggest that Thomas died on 11 Nov 1872 in Proton, but I have not located his death/burial information.

Elizabeth (nee Kidney) last appears on the 1881 census in Proton. Online family trees suggest she died on 3 Dec 1885, but I have not been able to locate her death/burial records.

Was Thomas married twice? Or do Elizabeth, Eliza and Jane represent the same person?

I am looking for information on Joseph "Giuseppe" Niosi (1875-) who immigrated to Canada abt. 1888. According to his marriage record to Josephine (nee Maiorana), his parents were Francis Niosi and Josephine Casolito/Cusolito, and he was a tailor.

Other records suggest that his brother was Dominico Niosi (b. abt. 1844 - 2 Aug 1893) who was married to Nancy Locandri. However, there are approximately 31 years between them.

I am looking for information on the family of James Speirs.

According to my records, he was born abt. 1752 in Cambuslang and married Margaret Robertson on May 28, 1775 in Barony.

Known children from this marriage include: Catherine (b. June 6, 1776  -), Robert (b. October 7, 1777, m. Helen Michie, d.  April 19, 1858), Margaret (b. November 19, 1779 - ), Janet (b. March 27, 1782 -), Richard Alexander (b. November 25, 1783 -), James (b. June 24, 1786 -), Elizabeth (b. March 1, 1789 -), and Andrew (b. October 13, 1791 -).

Lanarkshire / Andrew Speirs/Catherine Daes
« on: Sunday 14 August 16 16:14 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate information on this family.

Known information includes:

Andrew Speirs: b. abt. 1817, Tollcross, Lanarkshire, Scotland, m. Catherine Days/Daes, 1846, New Monkland, Lanarkshire.

Known children include: Helen (1846-), Robert (1848-)(m. Priscilla Hughes, 1870, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland), Andrew (1849-), Elizabeth (1856-), Margaret (1857-), and George (1860-).

According to the 1841 census, there is an Andrew Speirs, 14, living in Ballochney with Robert, 60, Helen, 50, and Robert, 60. However, I believe the age of the second Robert in this index might be incorrect.

The 1851 - 1871 census' suggests that Andrew was a Steam Engine Keeper at the Coal Pit.

Both Andrew and Catherine disappear from the 1881 census, so I assume that they had died before this date.

Canada Lookup Request / Masters of Reach Township
« on: Friday 12 August 16 17:54 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information and parentage information for Daniel Masters and/or Elizabeth Graham.

Daniel was born abt. 1816. However, there seems to be some confusion as to whether he was born in Canada or the United States. Census records suggest that he was of either of Dutch or German origin. His wife, Elizabeth, was born abt. 1823 in either Canada or Ireland. I have also not been able to locate their marriage record. According to the 1861 census the family was living in Mariposa and by 1871 they had were living in Reach Township. Daniel died on December 27, 1884. However, I have not been able to locate his burial information or any records for Elizabeth's death.

Known children from this marriage include: Aaron Masters (1843 -1929), George Masters (1845-1926), William Henry Masters (1848-1930), John Masters (1852-), James Masters (1855-1925), Randell Masters (1857-1937), Jackson Masters (1860-1940) and Thomas G. Masters (1864-1936).

Interestingly, their eldest son, Aaron, later changes his surname to McMaster.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / PILCH in Blickling, Norfolk, England
« on: Saturday 09 July 16 20:01 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the family of Robert and Sarah Pilch.

I believe he was born abt. 1780. and married before 1798. I have not been able to discover Sarah's maiden name.

Children from this marriage include: Matthew Pilch, Rose (nee Thornton) Cutting, Luke Pilch, Joseph Pilch, James Pilch, Peter Pilch and Wynne (nee Pilch) Doughty.

I have not been able to find anything on Matthew, so I believe that he died in childhood. I also believe that Rose later immigrated to Canada with her brothers: Joseph, James, and Peter. But, did she leave her children behind? According to Canadian records, she is later referred to as Rosamond? Sadly, Luke lived in a workhouse in Aylsham and was in trouble with the law. He was estranged from his wife, who had two illegitimate children.

Any further insights into this family would be greatly appreciated.

Canada Lookup Request / Masters/Moran in Reach Township, Manchester
« on: Friday 08 July 16 15:58 BST (UK)  »
I'm at a bit of a roadblock.

According to my records, Aaron Masters (later McMaster) married Mary before 1871. Their children's birth and marriage records suggest that her maiden name could have been Moren, Moran, Morne, Moore, Movan, or Ward. However, I have not been able to locate a marriage record for Aaron and Mary or a death record for Mary to indicate her birth name or parents.

According to census records she was born in Ireland and was a member of the Presbyterian church. The 1901 census suggests that she was born on 3 Mar 1846.

Children from this marriage include: Frederick McMaster, Charlotte (nee McMaster) Lee, John McMaster, Eliza McMaster, James McMaster, Mary (nee McMaster) Riley and Alice Rose (nee McMaster) Devaney.

I am looking for information on the family of Peter Pilch who was born in Norfolk, England abt. 1815.

He was married to Elizabeth (Heath) Pilch and some online trees suggest that they were married abt. 1840. However, I believe he had an earlier marriage to Susannah (unknown).

Online trees also suggest that his parents were Joseph and Elizabeth. However, I believe that Joseph was Peter's brother and they were both the children of Robert and Sarah from Blickling, Norfolk, England.

Known children include: Jonas (1842-1857), Noah (1844-1904), William (1848-), James (1850-), Henry (1853-), Sarah Ann (1855-), and Eliza (1860-).

Peter was buried in the Sandford Memorial Cemetery, Uxbridge Twp, Ontario, Canada.

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / William Mills (1768 - 1848) Guisborough
« on: Thursday 14 April 16 12:56 BST (UK)  »
Can someone do a lookup for William Mills who was born in Guisborough in 1768? There are two records of his death. One in the Yorkshire Bishop's transcripts of burials, and another another in    Yorkshire Burials in 1848. I am also interested in learning who witnessed his marriage to Ann Harding in 1791. I am trying to determine who his parents were and am trying to determine if either of these records hold this information.
