Sussex / 27 Duke Street, Brighton

Does anyone know where I could obtain a photo of 27 Duke Street, Brighton in the 1930's?  I found an advertisement regarding this address which indicated that it was a music shop.

Well I've had a go and this is what I think they say:-

Josefa - Qa?jifla?j

Brother - Frantisch

Unknown sister - Zufisr

Don't know if any of that makes sense!

I though the word after Quid might be nobilis, but I may be wrong.  I can't work out what the other two could be.

It's a pity we can't see more of the text.  Might just get a better idea of the meanings then.

I found a family on the 1911 census who might be Albert's family

Dad and Mum are Harry Hunt and Edith (nee Bellinger), children listed are Leslie, Olive, Reginald and Donald.   Dad is a carpenter.  Address is Rose Cottage, Thruxton, Andover

However I feel we are getting ahead of ourselves here!

If Ferret could tell us all the details from the 1939 register that would give us something to work on.

Apparently Albert is a Master Fishmonger so I wondered about looking in something like Kelly's directory to see if it gave a clue as to when Hunt became Potter.  I think you can look under trade as well as name in these directories.

Do you know who the other person is with Albert Potter in the 1939 record?

I've done a slightly different search on 1939 and I think the other person is a William E. Potter.

Does this name mean anything to you?

Did you look at the full details for Albert?  It should give you his dob, marital status and occupation.

One possibility for a name change was in order to inherit something.

If you look on Free BMD you will find a birth record for Henry in Dec 1901 Bedwelty.

According to the Forces War Records website he was British and was in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

His service number was 1318759 and he was in the 620 Squadron.

There is no other family type information provided as far as I can see.

Have you considered obtaining his death certificate?  I'm not sure how much information is contained in war death certs.

The reference is in the GRO War Death R.A.F. All Ranks (1939 to 1948)  Volume 11 Page 61

The other alternative is to get in touch with the RAF, explain what you are trying to do and see if they can help you at all.

Do you know anything else about him?  When and where was he born?  Have you found him on any census records or was he born after 1911?

I see that KGarrad has given you the link for the know your place website.  However as has been said the gap between maps isn't going to be helpful.

You may like to contact the Bristol Records Office and see if they can help you at all.  Link to their website contact page below:-
