Thanks to all for your replies.
I have now found my family's notebook (written by my great grandfather in the 1930's).
He says that in 1930 two of his sons visited a relative in New Zealand, who lived in Wellington. Her name was Mrs. Brackenridge, and I believe that her maiden name was Mary Ann Miller, born c 1860 in Seal, Kent (daughter of the family I mention at the beginning of this thread).
Is there any way I can find out if there was a marriage in New Zealand, most likely in Wellington, about 1885 between a Mary Ann Miller and a Mr Brackenridge?
Or is there any way I can discover the Brackenridge family in Wellington now?
Any suggestions about how to go further would be very much appreciated.

I will check in the notebook to see if there is any reference to the location in NZ - I recall, from memory, that the reference is just to two English family members, who were merchant seamen, visiting a great aunt in NZ, rather than a specific town.
I take it that there are no censuses (online, anyway), like there are in the UK for the later years of the 19th Century? Are there any Birth/Marriage/Death lookups available?

Hi everyone. I have a family who vanishes off the English Census after the 1871, except for the eldest daughter and son who marry and continue to live in Kent. I can't find them on the Censuses, or any death or marriage references.
I have a family notebook which suggests that possibly some or all of the family were living in NZ in the 1920's/1930's, so I wondered if possibly the family emigrated to Australia or NZ between 1871 and 1881.
Is there any way I can find this out?
The family are:
James Miller born 1821 London, England
Mary Ann Miller born 1819 Seal, Kent
Mary Ann Miller born 1860 Seal, Kent - may have married Breckenridge or similar name
James G Miller born 1851 Seal, Kent
