Yesterday BumbleB said -- BUT whilst the transcript fitted, the image did not.  So I rang them to ask for a correction.  After the weekend I received a response, and all is now OK - correction made and 15 March able to see Doreen's card.

This has happened to me two or three times when looking at military records -- each time FindMyPast have apologised and corrected the problem quickly. I have been with FindMyPast and Ancestry for 20+ years and I am seriously considering ditching Ancestry because of the past and current problems.

While researching Arthur discovered he was in the Navy during W W1 as found photo with HMS Bacchant on cap of uniform. Also on marriage cirtificate to a French woman in Le Harve, France
(Suzanne Camont ) in1920 stated he was a sailor. Cannot locate any Naval records any help gratefully received. Many thanks

Do you know what year he was born? Likewise where he was born -- even just the County may assist.

Royal Navy or Merchant Navy?

HMS Bacchant was a WW1 Cressy-class armoured cruiser built for the Royal Navy

John Burke disembarked with the 15th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers on the 22nd November 1915 and entered Theatre of War 1 (France and Flanders). His 1914/15 Star would be stamped with his LF number, 10288. (as per the Medal Rolls for 1914/15 Star)

A great uncle, Benjamin Hunter, 6th Battalion, Tank Corps won his MM for actions at Cambrai (20 to 27 November 1917) this didn't appear in the London Gazette until 19th March 1918. He also won a Bar to his MM for actions at Fraicourt Wood on the 8th October 1918, this wasn't Gazetted until 17th June 1919.

A Marriage Certificate only requires a current occupation.

Romilly.

Very true but from a Sailor to a Painter without some sort of training / apprenticeship?
