Travelling People / Re: Circus Family Performers/Martinek Family

Hi Crisane,
Thanks for the info, we didn't know some of this and some we had was vague. This helps to clear some of it up.  Interesting about the circus, looks like it is a very successful enterprise.
For your previous post, we do not have the marriage certificate for Sophia and Emmanuel.  Do you have access to it, or can you tell me how to find it.
We appreciate all your help, thank you very much.

Cheers
Chip

The names that I have are; Emmanuel Martinek (1847-1919) - m Apr. - 1870 Sophia Sumner Fisher (1848-1933).  They had four children, Leonard Charles 1870-?, Baby boy 1873-1873, Oceano Oscar Henry 1876-1932 and Emily Olympia 1878-1950.
I have Emmanuel born in Jassy, Romania and would like to find his roots along with Sophia, born in England.
I know they got into film through J B McDowell, who is my wife's grand father.
So any help to find where they come from would be greatly appreciated.

 Crisane
Thank you for the links, very interesting.

Cheers

I am looking for information on the Martinek family that toured Europe around the turn of the last century.  They eventually went into film and were not only actors but got into some production work.  I am primarily interested in their early days and the groups they travelled with.
Thank you and I appreciate any help or info you may have.

Cheers

I am looking for information about Thomas Loveless and Isabel Davis of Rhode Island.  They were married in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island in Nov. 1726.  He was born about 1706 in Westerly, RI and she was born about 1714.  I know there was a John Loveless in RI, born around 1680.  I was wondering if he was Thomas' father or uncle and if there are any others.
Thomas and Isabel had children that went to New York state and one son who went to Nova Scotia as a New England Planter after the expulsion of the Acadians.
Any information on how Thomas' and Isabel's families made it to Rhode Island would be appreciated.

Cheers

Canada / Re: Ship Passenger Lists to Canada Before 1865, (please read before posting.)

Hi grub,
lots of info there.  I know I'm off topic here, but do you know how I might check for passenger lists in reverse.  I'm looking for a George McDowell who was born in Canada and emigrated to England.  He was born in 1851 and shows up in the English census, starting 1871.  You help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Garen,
You have been a great help, so thank you.  You may be on to something about Robert being George's brother, close to the same age.
What I was wondering about is how do I check the regimental numbers that are on the medals and would the records hold family information? ie. Mother, Father, place of birth and so on.
Again thanks for your help, it has gotten me going again.
Cheers

Hi Garen,
sorry about the mix up with the names.  I'm new at this site and just used the name I last saw, anyway sorry.
The Burma medal has the same info on it, so my guess is he is in the RA.  The thing is I don't know where he is from or how he is related to all the others, in regards to the medals, other than they have the same family name.  One I know is the father to my wife's grandfather.  He is the one in the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, George McDowell.  Long story but he was born in Canada in 1851 and one of his sons, John Benjamin McDowell has medals from WW1.  I know I'm getting off subject with your area, but thank you for your help.  I'll try Find My Past and see hat happens.

Thanks again

Chip

Hi RK and Radcliff,
Sorry about the forward movement with this instead of going back.  It seems that's what happens with George Snr. when I start out, I hit a wall and then stagger forward.  I appreciate all the help I can get and am trying to sift through it now.
Again thank you for the help.

Hi RK,
I don't know why I wrote Oaklawn????  I have it written down Prospect in Toronto from my searches, infact last year my wife and I found the burial site.  That's how I know that  his Grandmother McAteer is buried with him.
I don't think it is London Ontario, just have a feeling about it.  We have been to both New Londons and couldn't find anything on him.  There are a few McDowells in both but nothing to lead you to believe it is him or his family.  We believe they first settled in the Montreal area because that is where we think George Snr came from.
Thank you for the article on Micheal, very interesting.  It would be an awful way to die.

Again thank you so much I certainly appreciate this.
