England / Hunters and Charlton families of the North East
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 10:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have one line of my tree that I've not yet done much work on - but as it is my Nan's maternal line, and she is 94 and still with us, I'd like to make some progress for her. I have to date stayed around Staffordshire/Shropshire and the Midlands and my grandad's side....so here goes.

My Great Grandmother was

MARGERET ANN HUNTER
BIRTH 22ND DECEMBER 1895 • Newcastle, Northumberland, England
DEATH 13TH FEB 1982 • Stafford, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom

Who married JAMES HARRISON on 15 Dec 1921 in Walker, Northumberland. He then took Margeret back to Staffordshire where they stayed and had the family around Doxey Wood Cottage/Rickerscote/Stafford.

'Now I'm looking for the correct BMDs for Margeret Hunter's parents who stayed in the NE. My Nan (Florence Harrison/robertson) often talks of her mother going up to NE to care for her dying mother during WW2.

I believe Margeret's parents are:

THOMAS HUNTER
BIRTH 1866 • Hedley Hill, Northumberland, England

and

BIRTH 1867 • Broomhaugh, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom

They were still living around Bath Street, Walker in 1911.

My tree has a rough plan for this line on Ancestry (Robertson Family Research) but there are probably errors on it, as it's based on work of a relative a long time ago and public trees!!

Thanks for your help in verifying and getting deaths for my 2nd GGPs (and anything else you can discover!)

I'm getting my family history research organised and made a list of my direct line ancestors and their locations in and around Staffordshire and their B&Ds! Any relatives out there? Any similar lines?

World War One / James Joseph McLynn - North Staffs Died 1918 - URGENT HELP!
« on: Wednesday 05 July 17 11:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am personally doing my family research (hence being a member!) but I am also a BBC journalist working on a story to try and trace the relatives of JAMES JOSEPH MCLYNN, from Burslem in Staffordshire.

Here are the details:

James was the son of Mrs Agnes McLynn who at the time of his death lived in Waterloo Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. He also had a sister Mary who was living at home and was aged 25 when he died. James was a crate maker when he enlisted in the Army in Lichfield, Staffordshire in October 1915 aged 19.

I've found his service records on Ancestry/FindMyPast and also on Staffs BMD there is the entry for him, and others - who look to be illegitimate.

MCLYNN   James   MCLYNN   Burslem   Stoke-On-Trent   BUR/118/080
Staffordshire Birth indexes for the years: 1898

The Common Room / Jenks / Jinks in Staffordshire (Stafford)
« on: Monday 29 May 17 21:02 BST (UK)  »
Evening All,

I need your help! I'm getting stuck on my Jinks/Jenks line of my family tree. If you're on Ancestry it's 'Robertson Family Research' - but I'm certain with

MARTHA JENKS b. 1861 who was the daughter of EDWIN JENKS b.1851 who was the son of RICHARD JENKS.

I found a newspaper article with a lot of those and also pariah registers for marriage info, BUT struggling to grasp the flip flop of Jenks and jinks sometimes Jenkes and making sure I have the right people.

I *Think* it's the family around Acton Trussell?

Help

Worcestershire / Robertson family in Worcestershire 1780-1850
« on: Tuesday 11 April 17 20:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

Ive been hitting a brickwall for a while now and not even a session with a SoG expert at WDYTYA LIVE at the weekend helped solve it!

I'm trying to find some missing Robertson's from Worcestershire on the 1841 and 1851 census' and to make sure I've got the right relations!

My tree is public on Ancestry 'Robertson Family Research' but I can't seem to locate

All seem to be born in Worcestershire or Shropshire.

Isaac Needham Robertson or any of his family on either 1841 or 1851 census.

I think His parents are; Rev Robert Robertson and Frances Bisselll

I think His wife is MARY ANN MERRELL b1802 d1838

His siblings are;
ROBERT ROBERTSON b1788 d1852
WILLIAM ARCH LEA ROBERTSON b1789 d.1731
MARY ROBERTSON b1791
THOMAS ROBERTSON b1796 d1851
JOHN ROBERTSON b1797
ANNA BRADFORD ROBERTSON b1800

And Isaac and Mary Ann's children are;

SUSANNAH ROBERTSON b1817
CHARLOTTE ROBERTSON b1821 d1859 (my direct line)
MARY ANN b1825
EDWIN b1827 d1897
BENJAMIN b1832 d1859
FRANCES b1834
SARAH b1838 d1838

Then Charlotte had my 2nd great grandfather Ernest Edwin illegitimately (I have birth certificate) in West Brom in 1853 but when she died in 1859 it looks like his uncle  Edwin and his wife Eliza took Ernest in.

I just can't find the family on the two census - esp. Charlotte!!!

Help!

England / Elizabeth 'Betty' Barnes - from Devon to Staffordshire?
« on: Saturday 11 March 17 09:38 GMT (UK)  »
Morning all,

I am hoping you can help with a brick wall I've been trying to breakdown for a while now. It's my 4th Great Grandmother;

Most of my relatives are born/baptised in and around Staffordshire and Derbyshire, but Elizabeth (Betty) Barnes takes me further afield...

I have her birth as around 1785 "Ugborough, Devon, England, United Kingdom" HOWEVER, it's sometimes listed as HOGBORO, Devon; BIGBURY, Devon; UGBOROUGH, Devon - depending on the sites and sources I search.

MARRIAGE: I believe she married Richard Jenks (b.1792) on 6 Jan 1821 in the Parish of Berkswich in Stafford.

CENSUS: I have them living together in Rickerscote, Stafford on the 1841 and 1851 census which fits other records of my family. In 1871 Betty is listed as living in Huntington, Staffs with her daughter Emma (nee Jenks) Cope.

DEATH: I have as 21 July 1872 at the age of 87.
This is also mentioned in paper as "July 21, the residence of her son-in-law. Mr. Joseph Cope. Huntington. Betty, relict of Mr. Richard Jinks, of Rickerscote, aged 87

What I would like to find is details of her ELIZABETH's BIRTH and BAPTISM and her parents in Devon....
I want to work out what might have brought her to Staford.

Thanks for your help in advance. If it helps, my tree is public on Ancestry "Robertson Family Research"

Sarah x

PS. Jenks is often listed as Jinks

Derbyshire / Harrisons in Marston Montgomery and Uttoxeter
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

I've spent all morning on the Harrisons in Marston Montgomery, Derbyshire and Uttoxeter, Staffs

I could do with having the relationships and family lines checking, because I am getting in a muddle!

I have marriage certificates back to Thomas and Sarah, which has William Harrison listed as his deceased father). It's when I get to Jane Furniss and back is when I am confused!

If you are on Ancestry my tree is here; http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/87236759/recent

So, I think my Harrison line - starting with my Great Granddad - is:

James Harrison (1896 - 1936)
son of:
James Harrison (1856 - 1938) and Martha Jenks (1861-1929)
son of:
Thomas Harrison (1843-1893) and Sarah Mycock (1829-1892)
son of:
William Harrison (1809- 1890) and Jane Furniss (1809-1866)
son of:
William? and Frances?

Any help will be MUCH appreciated - especially with William and Jane who spend a few census' apart! There seems to be lots of Harrisons around at the time.

Worcestershire / Isaac Needham Robertson and the Robertson family, help!
« on: Saturday 21 January 17 09:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all.

This one is another brick wall I keep hitting with the Robertson side, espeically with Issac, who seems to be elusive!

This is what I know of...

ISAAC NEEDHAM ROBERTSON
1795–1860
BIRTH JUL 1795 • Harborne, Staffordshire, England
DEATH JAN 1860 • Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
He's my 4th great-grandfather

and I believe married

MARY ANN MERRELL
1801–1838
BIRTH ABT 1801 • Worcestershire, England
DEATH DEC 1838 • Worcestershire, England
My 4th great-grandmother

is 1814 in Worcestershire....

it's their son EDWIN ROBERTSON b1827, West Bromwich that is my 3rd Great Grandfather, who I think married ELIZA CROSBY b May 1831 in 1853....they then had ERNEST EDWIN ROBERTSON b Jan 1854 who married JANE POINTON b1854 and I am pretty certain on the rest from marriage and births that my Nan (who is living) remembers!

The reason I ask is that from here my family are in Staffordshire and it's all 'old Staffs' which is very WM too!

What I'd like to verify is that Isaac IS the 4th Great-Grandfather of my chain, and his whereabouts, as he appears and disappears!

Thank you!
