Ah, sorry. I used the root link to the home page of the site as it is not one I had explored properly before. Apologies for the confusion.

The people I am interested in are not always recorded in the church records but the later events are in the civil records and you can get photocopies of certificates (and the more expensive official copies) as shown on this link:

We have hit a dead end going backwards. The records either never existed or don't exist anymore. So now we need to look sideways to distant cousins just in case anyone has family stories, documents or even a family bible! My husband (his family) is very disheartened but I have been researching for a lot longer and know how things go. I always knew the Irish research would be difficult.

Thank you. We are planning a trip to the area either this year or next so that will definitely be something to investigate.

I am overjoyed that I have got back as far as I have because another member of the family did research and even paid for a "professional" to try to get back to before the Swann marriage and neither of them managed to get very far.

I wonder if she was linked with the MacDonalds who fought with the English king in the 18th century Scottish Highland uprisings and who then moved down to North Riding of Yorkshire, eventually buying the Bosville Estate.

I can't find any "easy" connection at all between the families I'm afraid. My Alexander married in 1750 which would mean he was born 1730ish at the latest. The dates just don't seem to fit with the Bosville family.

Is this what you want?  No doubt at all about the entry!!

Thank you, that's the one that I want <lol> No doubt at all about the transcription, just about the accuracy of the original entry then. We do tend to be a long-lived lot..... My Grandmother was 99 when she died and always said that God didn't want her and the Devil dare not take her on. We have quite a few women lived into their 90s, they either died in infancy or childbed or in very old age.

With the earliest I can get a confirmed event for the family I do wonder about the '45 rebellion, but with a common name and no place of origin it can't be confirmed yet. Family stories passed down indicate some involvement and attachment to the Bowes-Lyons family. I can confirm that on two other tree stems but not the MacDonald line. It does seem that I am connected to the '45 in more ways than I would like.

The aftermath of the '45 is well known of course and it could be that Alexander came south for a better life.
