No, I can't find a birth record for Eveline Emily Murphy and I haven't found any other records for Emma Gertrude Bayley/Murphy, so this, along with the birth dates; father & mother, has me suspecting that they're the same person.

My main research is on Miriam Maida Murphy (no birth record). Her mother was Elizabeth Murphy, who later in life called herself Mrs Mercer. The father was possibly George Wilson and died when she was young. She had a half-sister known as Auntie Eva, so the Eveline above fits. I can give you a few more details if you think its the Elizabeth Murphy you're after.

I'm in Hobart so I'm going to chase up the thesis you mentioned, hopefully it'll have a few clues. What was the original record of the information about a Gibton living with Bridget Elizabeth Murphy?, I'd like to have a look at that, too. Matthew

Hi - I'm also trying to find out about Bridget Elizabeth Murphy as part of my research. I'm working on a theory that of the three children Charles Bayley and Bridget Elizabeth Murphy had together, two girls lived on but Bridget was unable to provide for them after Charles' death and they were placed into care. The document that has wondering is below. It says that in 1879 31 year old Elizabeth Murphy puts Eveline Emily into an Industrial School. It says that the girl is illegitimate and the father (Charles Bayley) is dead. It says Elizabeth Murphy "has another child so unable to provide for both" and is "native" which in this context means she was born in the colony. She would have been 18 in 1866, so I'm working on her being the girl at the inquest. Charles Bayley was very well regarded, so its possible that the girls' names were changed to keep it hush. The girl being placed in to the school was mentioned in the newspaper at the time.

Evaline Emily's date of birth is shown as 14/9/70

Emma Gertrude's date of birth is 14/9/71 - same day, one year off

Henrietta's birth date is the same month as Evaline's sister, but also one year off
