Hi there, I just had a quick look at this photo - are you looking for definition on the faces or just a clean-up?

Hi there, I know you didn't actually request a restore, but I couldn't resist a quick clean up on such a lovely photo!

Here's one from me:

I am also no expert when it comes to dating photos, but the ladies' hairstyles don't look particularly 1920s to me - a bit too permed perhaps? And from a quick look round online, the wedding dresses in the 1920s seemed to be a little shorter and a bit longer in the 1940s. I think the style of dress the men are in makes it more difficult to date, as they look very formal, particularly the man on the right. I'm interested to see what you find out!

I think there's a discrepancy between Alfred Thorne's name on the 1871 census (listed as Alfred J Thorne) and what's recorded on the BMD register; the only birth that can fit his age in 1871 is Alfred Thorne (without the J) registered in 1852 in Wincanton.

There doesn't seem to be a death registered in his name in the time period I'm looking at either.

It's annoying that the two marriage registrations have different variations of Alfred/Alfred James too.

I don't really know what to think now!! Thank you for all your help, as ever!

Dorset / James Henry Fiander b 1864

Hi all, looking for a bit of help with this chap: James Henry Fiander was born to George and Mary Ann Finder in 1864 in Tarrant Keyneston.

- He appears in the 1911 census as married to Lavinia for 28 years, which I think leads me to think that he is the same James Henry who married Lavinia Thorne in Poole in 1883.

- There is a James Fiander married to Lavinia in 1901 census, Tarrant Keyneston, with sons James H and Walter H.

- However, in the 1891 census he is shown as being married to a Jane, not Lavinia, although she was born in Milborne Port, same as shown for Lavinia in the other two census returns.

I haven't been able to find a birth registration for Lavinia Thorne, so I'm wondering if I'm barking up completely the wrong tree??!!

Hi Ciderdrinker, thanks for your reply - I think I might be inclined to agree with you regarding which parents are Thomas', as names do seem to be 'handed down' through families, don't they?

I shall have a look and see what I can find regarding farmland and maps etc - thanks for the suggestion, it's very helpful!
