Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / 1851 Please BANCROFT
« on: Tuesday 03 June 08 13:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I'm looking for ANN BANCROFT b. abt 1834 in Stockport. I had thought her parents were JAMES BANCROFT and MARY both born about 1813 in Stockport but now I'm not sure.
Also should be a sister JANE b. 1841, Stockport. Family presumably in that area :)
Thanks,
Lee

My access just ran out :( I'm looking for additional children. Are there any more than the 3 I mentioned?

James Edward Rider there is my husband's grandmother's father! She's coming up to her 99th birthday and I'm trying to do this part of the family for her before then!

This Jacob Hutt and family are a complete mystery - the more I look into it the more I suspect they must be 'my' family. For one thing, they are living in the right place and, as you suggest, son John is the right age. Also none of the people listed in this family are ever seen again! There is no death records for any of them - Nathanial and Gilbert are unusual enough names to spot - and they have vanished from later census BUT as I said most of the names etc are SO wrong, JOB HUTT appeared to have come into some money when he was young and set up his coal shed and later a shop ( I have an Old Bailey trial record from the 1820s to verify this) - whilst he obviously was not a very wealthy man, he never had to work as a labourer and would not have described himself as such to the enumerator ... plus names like 'Nathanial' and 'Mingay' are unusual enough not to be simple mistakes. I think even if someone else had provided the information to the census taker Job would have been familiar enough to the neighbourhood as the local coal dealer and greengrocer, resident in the street for at least twenty years! The children I have on record for the couple are from parish records - they are pretty well verified by myself and a few other descendants of this family. So, as you might imagine I am completely foxed.
Thanks for your time and effort,
Lee

Job Hutt b. 1786, Coventry, Warwickshire
Wife = Mary Ann b.1789, Burford, Oxfordshire
Children =
Joseph b. 1818, St Pancras, London
Thomas Henry b. 1820 ditto
Eliza Anne b. 1824 ditto
Elizabeth b. 1825 ditto

Martha Ellen b. 1830 ditto

Job and Mary Ann had a coal shed on Britannia St, Battle Bridge St Pancras since at least the 1820s they also had a grocery shop there in the 1850s. I have the couple in the 1851 and 1861 census' living at nos 4 and 3 Britannia St. I do have an earlier posting on the subject but I don't know how to link to it  ???

Thanks for the quick reply -  JACOB HUTT is living where my JOB aught to be on Brittannia St in St Pancras, the only trouble is all the names and ages and birthplaces of children etc are wrong  - I don't think it can be him. The only thing I can think of is he left the house with relatives whilst he ws off somewhere else with his family ... been looking for him for ages now on the 1841 with absolutely no luck :(

Thanks again
