The Lighter Side / Re: Your Favourite Census Mistranscriptions!
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 17:50 BST (UK)  »
I have great sympathy for transcribers but I suffer a lot from their art.
1)  My main wish for the last 20 years has been to find Hannah Delanoy.
Salt Lake City and all the other transcribers are insistent that most Delanoys are Delaneys.
Including the most recent Gt Budworth parish register project :-(
2) I am half Welsh and if you haven't been to those censuses you have a treat waiting!
Llancystenyn, Llancystenin, Llancystennin and Llangwstenin -- those are not transcription errors but what is actually written :-) The last is the modern name.

Thanks for a quick response with Henrietta/Emma ... it's even odder than that ... :-)

I think Henrietta with James snr in Maldon may be misrecorded in the 1841 Census  for Emireta Gardner (bap 19 Jun 1863 Purleigh).
They married at St Marys Maldon and baptised children at All Saints Maldon ...George 1825, Emireta 1827 (the 1841 C has James+Henrietta and James, George, Henrietta of right ages ) and then some in Barking after they moved (I have a birth cert in Barking).
I am then tempted by Emireta becoming Emma (James bap Maldon, Emma bap Purleigh) in the 1851 which also matches on other children ( perhaps 'Emmy' to the census taker ?).

(my) James jnr, IF he is part of this Gower-Gardner family should have been bap at AllSaints just before George but isn't !

So I have put my Gardner connection in the unproved pile until I find a James-James baptism.
I shall also scan Purleigh for Emmas and Henriettas of the right age because I need a dual James senior marriage Maldon-Purleigh of the right ages which seems as much of a stretch as my name mishearings ?

thanks again
Gareth

Cheshire / Re: CPRDB - Great Budworth now loaded

Just done my usual check on transcribers ;)
I have a Delanoy married at gt Bud and as usual she has been transcribed as Delaney.
I could not see a way to get correction advice to the project
Any ideas ?

Yes I do ... I would post it here but the 'attach an image' option is not showing in this dialogue :-(
So I'll do it the hard way ...

James Gower / Mary Ann Brand 30 Jun 1850 -  Parish Church -  Great Ilford
Both full age
JG is a Gardener resident in Barking - father James Gower also a gardener
MAB is resident Gt Ilford  - father George Brand also a gardener
In the presence of George Brand and Elizabeth Manners

Essex Lookup Requests / Gower Maldon Essex
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 13:39 BST (UK)  »
I have from Censuses a James Gower  b Maldon abt 1823  - possibly bap Gowers.
I have searched the CofE records at SEAX online ( All Saints and St Mary) with no luck for a James though plenty of Gower(s).
It is frustrating because an indirect contact claimed to have James Gower b Maldon 18 May 1823
but no evidence.
Does anyone have a Nonconformist James ( unlikely ) or a James from other sources at that date?
or a late baptism for such a James ( which might be in Barking )

Thanks for any information
Gareth
