Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Will - early 1600's COMPLETED xx
« on: Saturday 18 August 12 10:09 BST (UK)  »
I'm missing just a couple of words from this will and would appreciate your thought on what these words/amount are.

Line 1: the word looks like it should be "after" but there's too many letters

Line 2: I know it's an amount of money, probably  ... shillings but as elsewhere in the will the words are written as "twentie shillings" I'm a bit confused about this amount.

Line 3: He's leaving an amount of money to the poor of the local church. Is this 10shillings?

Thank you for any assistance

Australia Lookups completed / Jabez mystery-Completed tks
« on: Wednesday 13 April 11 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

I have been trying to find the following guy:
SURNAME  : Bellion
FORENAME: Jabez
MARRIED   : 16 May 1883 Sydney
SPOUSE    : Janet L Steel

They had at least 7 children between 1884 and 1897.
Jabez is in Sands Directories as a builder, living in the Woollahra/Paddo/Coogee area between 1884 & 1895.

He eventually was declared bankrupt in 1891 following a lot of insolvency issues.

Last seen in 1897 when his son Stanley was born (or he was at least around 9mths before the birth!!)

When his wife Janet died in 1931 at Chatswood he didn't even rate a mention on her death notice.
The name "Bellion" doesn't appear in NSWBDM until the birth of Jabez's first child in 1884, although Tasmania does seems to have their fair share of Bellion family members (including a convict Edward Bellion). I just can't confirm any connection with Tassie lot.

There is an arrival or a Mr J/T Bellion in 1851 on the Thalia - from San Francisco but again, I can't make the connection or find this guy again. I also tend to think he may have been too old to be the guy I'm looking for.

Where did Jabez come from and where did he go?

Because he's on a side branch, I have no certs but any help would be very much appreciated please.

Thanks a lot.

Australia Lookups completed / Are they related - Completed thanks

Hi all,

I am trying to find out if this Alice Naughton* is the mother of Annie Naughton.

Qld birth: Anne Naughton, born 29 April 1872, dau of James N. & Alice Kilfedder.
Vic Birth : Rebecca Naughton, born 1874 Sandridge Vic, dau of James N. & Alice Kilfedder
 - The two girls appear to be the only children born to this couple (that I have found)

Vic Death: Annie Naughton, died Horsham Vic, aged 28, dau of Naughton Jas. & Alice Kelfeder
 - Possibly this is the same Anne who was born in Qld in 1872 (age is slightly out though)

*Vic death: Alice Naughton, died 1927 Ballarat Vic, aged 80, dau of Michael Kilfrider & Mary Ann

I can't find Alice or Anne/Annie on any Electoral Rolls or any other information about them.

Would anyone have any ideas on how to prove a connection or find them together anywhere between 1872 and 1902 when Annie died?

Thanks

Australia Lookups completed / Missing Convict - Completed Thank you
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to find further details about a convict called Charles Marns (aka Marnes)

The only reference I have found is on the 1837 NSW muster where he's aged 25. The ship he came on looks like "Surrey" but I'm not sure about that as I cant read it very well. He arrived 1831 and by 1837 he had a TOL so his sentence was most likely 7 years.

I understand that he was originally from Middlesex (born c. 1811, died 1872). I've tried the Old Bailey without success.

Please, can anyone see him anywhere listed as a convict etc between 1831 and 1837, or even a marriage for him anytime?

Ozi

Australia Lookups completed / Passenger list-Completed Thanks
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 21:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I would like to find a copy of the passenger list for the ship "Adelaide" (arrived in Port Phillip in 1848) - or any information about the passengers.

Specifically looking for the surname DUNN. They are reported to be assisted immigrants.

Only sighting in Victoria is the birth of a daughter, Margaret, in 1850 at Geelong (ref 8759)

Any other information would be most welcome.

Thank you
