Australia / Re: Missing MAJM
« on: Sunday 15 January 23 23:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the updates

I do hope she's missing by choice rather than by accident

She's certainly notable by her absence - we miss our "JM" ... please come home  ;D

Australia / Missing MAJM
« on: Sunday 15 January 23 06:41 GMT (UK)  »

Has anyone heard from MAJM (aka JM ) in recent times?

I've sent PM's but had no reply  ???

I believe she was last on RootsChat last June - do so hope that there was nothing untoward happening in her extended family.

Hertfordshire / Re: Emmanuel Swabey and wife Charlotte Baker death.
« on: Saturday 14 January 23 12:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have their births, marriage and death details

As you have their Death details does that mean you already know their cause of death  ???

Apologies if I'm repeating info you already have - I believe Emmanuel died before Charlotte so they had very little time to spend with their daughter. Maybe they were both devastated after her early demise.

MI transcriptions for Wigginton graves available at Herts Family History Society, Publications, Volume 89.

Library and FHS Lookups / Re: Robert Wade 4 th great-grandfather

I think this may be his burial
Burial 13 Jan 1805 St Mary Rotherhithe
"Robert Wade from Bermondsey" – age?

Unfortunately his age has been cut off in the copy of the register on ancestry. Knowing his age at death is going to be useful, as there are a couple of possible baptisms for Robert Wade.

Age 65 (born 1740) according to a different source

Oh gosh - just realised that this thread is supposed to be replies to the vent/rant/frustration about excessive advertising on RC and it's effects on the user numbers.

Silly me - just goes to show how easy it is to misread something  :P  :P :P

The Common Room / Re: Surnames and illegitimacy - is my math correct?
« on: Friday 22 April 22 01:11 BST (UK)  »
If the supposed average rate of illegitimacy is 5% - does that mean, in 10 generations i.e. on average, about 300 years, the likelihood of your ancestor in the male line being someone of a different surname is 50%? And in 600 years, it is almost certain that one of your male ancestors would have had a father who was not who he was meant to be (or they inherited their mother's surname) :o?

An average of 5% remains as 5% irrespective of the number involved.

The base number might change but an Average percentile remains static
