Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Seeking David Ayling

Seems like a fairly big geographical leap from Alton to Hertford for this time period, but it is possible that the 1749 baptism for David in Hertford is correct. Two reasons: father's name, Jesse, is used by many of David's descendants. It is perhaps a somewhat unusual name for the time period? Also some of David's descendants end up living near Hertford.

It says "Wm" for William, father of Isaac, in the original records. Some have transcribed it as John or Edmund in error. If you look at the entries below Isaac the clerk is repeatedly using "Wm" for William. Also a very faint entry for an Elizabeth in 1798.

Chainsaw: how did you come up with father to William from Alton, Hampshire?

A little late on this one but came up in google search. If you viw the original parish records for Isaac in 1797 for Aldingbourne, the father's name is "Wm" for William. It cursory look would come up with John or Edmund. However, if you compare to Williams in the entries below Isaac, you can see the the clerk is using "Wm" repeatedly for William. Yes, William married Anne Faulkner in Felpham is this is Isaac's likely parents. Question is: who was William's father? And where was he born?
