Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a connection to Edward Bradshaw and Mary Ann Griffen who married 1851 in Clapham, Surrey?  Edward's father was John Bradshaw (Stoker) and Mary Ann's father was James Griffin (Lighterman).  Would like to know more about the Bradshaws and Griffins and about their ancestors.  Edward and Mary Ann are my 3xgreat grandparents.

Armed Forces / Company Sergeant Major A.J. Poolman
« on: Tuesday 03 June 08 16:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for more information about my grandfather Andrew John Poolman.  He served in the Boer War, in India and in WW1.  His brother Herbert was killed at Mt Kemmel in WW1 and my grandfather was injured there.  There was quite a large mention of my grandfather in the Wiltshire Gazette on 13th July 1916 for gallantry on the battlefield.  I was hoping that I may be able to get hold of a copy of the original page on which the story is written.  Maybe someone can tell me if the newspaper is still in existence or if there is an archives of such material?  From what I can make out (the copy that I have is in very bad condition) he was presented with the Order of the Cross of St. George (Russian) for bravery and endurance on the battlefield in Flanders.  Can anyone explain to me what the Cross of St. George (Russian) means exactly?  The presentation ceremony took place ath the Devizes Depot in Wiltshire.

Many thanks from Mozzie

Wiltshire / MILLARD and DUNFORD in Wiltshire
« on: Thursday 22 May 08 15:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have a mystery which I need help to solve.  Annie Poolman born in Warminster 1875 married George Dunford in Mere 1900.  Not long after they seem to have carried the surname of Millard if I'm not mistaken.  Does anyone know if they changed their surname to Millard or did Annie remarry a Millard after 1903.  It appears that Annie had her first child Andrew John Dunford in 1903 but he turned into Andrew John Millard not long after.  It's really got me baffled and any help would be wonderful.

« on: Thursday 27 May 04 12:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone!

I am hoping to make some contacts with my Bradshaw/Squires/Griffen family tree research.  Information that I have so far is:-

John Bradshaw (Lighter man) in 1851 had 2 children.  His son Edward b.1830 married Mary Ann Griffen in 1851.  They had 2 children - Mary Jane Bradshaw b.1852 and James Bradshaw born 1857 in Stephney, London.  James married Caroline Squires in 1877 in Battersey.  They had 6 children.  Caroline Squires was b.1859.  She immigrated to Australia with her children in 1889 (James was already in Australia by this time.)  Any information or connections to this family tree would be very much appreciated. ::)
