I'm astounded by the quality of the work done here by you both.  This is the only known photograph of my maternal grandfather from the 1920s (plus two of my aunts), and to get it to improved like this is thrilling.  Many, many thanks for your efforts.

Is it possible to restore this photograph to include copying (and flipping) the left-eye to replace the blurred right eye?

Many thanks for this.  George Harvey Leeson was born in Hanley in the Potteries in 1844 and died in 1846 (one of those tricky in-between censuses children).  John Robert must have been quite young when he moved to Burslem, as he was only 16 or so when he married.  Perhaps the 1827 marriage of his mother was the catalyst?  The age difference is maintained through all the census and death information.

Many of my ancestors worked on the canals, sometimes having to fill in quiet periods with assorted labouring jobs.

Incidentally, JR is double-entered in one census (1851 or 1861) as his wife Martha entered him at home and he was actually on a narrow boat and is entered there.

A couple of us have amassed a lot on the JR descendant history.  That is why trying to get some certainty on his mother would be such a bonus.  As you say, the more information we put out the more it might fit in with what others know.

Thanks once again

Derbyshire / Which Hannah Leeson, 1791-92?
« on: Monday 18 July 16 16:02 BST (UK)  »
My great (x4) grandmother was Hannah Leeson.  On 22/03/1814 her illegitimate son John Robert Leeson (my great (x3) grandfather) was baptised in St Alkmund's Church, Derby.  I am confused as to which Hannah Leeson she was.  There seem to be two possibilities:  Hannah, baptised Snelston 13/05/1792; Hannah, born Cubley 1791.  Cubley and Snelston are just 4 miles apart.  I suspect the girls were cousins or similar, and they are different girls.

Cubley Hannah looks to have married William Doncaster at Snelston (26/09/1814).  They moved to Shelton in the Potteries (Sun Street, 1861 and 1871) and both died in the 1870s.  This Hannah's brother Joseph married a Catherine ('Kate') Oakden and widow Catherine was a Sun Street neighbour.  Shelton in the Potteries is two miles away from where John Robert Leeson lived for a time in the 1830s-40s.

Snelston Hannah was the daughter of Herbert Leeson (born Cubley 1761- died Cubley 1844) and Isabella Oakden (confusingly there is another Isabella living in the area about this time).  Hannah looks to have been one of eight children.  I believe she married George Harvey at Cubley on 25/12/1827.  The couple are probably to be found in St Michael's, Derby in the 1841 Census, with a son George (born mid-to-late 1820s).  I have a possible death for Hannah Harvey in Derby District in either 1856 or 1858.  Other than this I can find nothing further on the Harvey family.

My suspicion that Hannah Harvey is my great (x4) grandmother is reinforced by John Robert Leeson's naming of his children.  He moved to Burslem in the Potteries and married Martha Smith (born 1807) in 1830.  Their children included Herbert, Isabella and, most significantly George Harvey.

How best can I give any certainty to my suspicions?
