Surrey Lookup Requests / Re: Tooting-Graveney records
« on: Wednesday 07 September 16 00:53 BST (UK)  »
Thanks guys for all the input, you all seem to be following my line of thought but so far there is no solid proof that these 2 Henry's are the same guy. I'm hoping that the parish records that the Tooting Graveney book was transcribed from will shed more detail, the problem now is getting to see them, they are in the London metropolitan achives.  As a foot note, I think Henry married again in 1805 after Susannah died.

This is a long shot but you never know.
Rebecca Arabella Wedge b.1762 Tooting-Graveney. Married Henry Otway 1788 St Andrew Holborn.
I'm ok with the details of Rebecca but I want to find more on Henry, ie, birth date and place. Got an idea that he may have been born in Ashstead but can't link to this Henry. He was proberly already married when he married Rebecca so this was a bigamous marriage. The former wife may have been Susannah Butcher, married in 1786, Ashstead. Most of this is theory at the moment the facts are that Henry married Rebecca and that it was bigamous. Any help to find details of Henry would be a great help.

The Common Room / Re: Bigamy

Evidence is from "The History of Tooting-Graveney-Surrey" Book of Examinations. Refers to Rebecca seeking assistance from the parish as her husband Henry has gone away and is found to be a bigamist. Rebecca and Henry were married in London in 1788 but if it is the same Henry Otway then he was already married. I am looking to verify that my Henry is the same person, as yet I don't know his birth year or place but there is a Henry Otway b.1762 Ashstead, Surrey that may fit.

Question, if a man committed bigamy in the 1780's would there be court proceedings against him? If the answer is yes would the proceedings be recorded and where would I find the record?

Suffolk Lookup Requests / James Jolly
« on: Friday 02 September 16 03:36 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the wife of James Jolly b.24 AUG 1828 • St Andrews, Bungay. Suffolk. On the 1861-1871-1881 census's her name is Charlotte. On the 1891 she is not there with James but living with her son Henry in London. As far as I can tell she was born in Bungay in abt.1832 and their first child was born in 1854, Bungay. I can find no marriage record for them, there is a Charlotte Game but that does'nt seem to fit. Any help appreciated.
