Derry (Londonderry) / Samuel Kelly
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 13:33 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find a Samuel Kelly on the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census but so far I cannot find him. He married a Lizzie Wade on 01 Jan 1880 and they had the following children:

Annie Mary Kelly b. 29/01/1881
George McMullan Kelly b. 09/12/1882
Margaret Kelly 25/10/1891
John Kelly 11/06/1887

All of the children were registered as being born in Gosheden, Londonderry

I did find Annie on the 1911 census as a result of her marriage to William James Millar on 26/04/1909 at Cumber Lower Presbyterian Church:

Antrim / Isabella Quaite
« on: Friday 16 September 16 14:52 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find an Isabella Quaite on the 1911 Irish Census. In 1901 she is living at 36 Townsend Street Upper as a sister-in-law to Robert Henry Brown, her age is given as 55, she is married, her occupation is a spinner and her religion is Church of Ireland.  I am assuming that her maiden name was Nesbitt as this was the maiden name for Robert's wife Mary Jane (there was also a brother Charles Nesbitt). As yet I have not found a marriage record that could provide me with the name of a potential husband. The father of Mary Jane and Charles was called Allen Nesbitt.

I did find a Belfast burial record for an Isabella Quaite dated 14 June 1928, died aged 80 with a last place of residence given as 80 Old Lodge Road. Grave section E1 230.

« on: Wednesday 14 September 16 13:37 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find marital information for a Robert Evans born 1908 in New York and a Samuel H Evans born 1913 in New York. Their parents were Samuel Evans and Agnes Sweeney (1878-1933).
On the 1940 US Census, Robert is married to someone called Loretta and there is a 2 year old son also called (*) (born 1938). Robert's father Samuel is also living with them.

There is a Samuel H Evans aged 27 living as a lodger in New York (1940) and it states that he is married. However I have so far be en unable to find any marriage record.

Both brother were living in Queens, New York in 1920 although their mother Agnes died in Brooklyn.

Family History Beginners Board / John Sweeney
« on: Thursday 08 September 16 11:28 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a John Sweeney who was living with the family of my 3x great-grandmother Esther Sweeney (maiden name Cowan) at Earl Street Belfast in 1911 aged 72. He was stated as being an Uncle to the head of the family, his marital status was single, his birthplace was Belfast and his occupation was a machinist in a factory. Esther's husband Joseph had died in 1904 so I am assuming that John was Joseph's uncle. I have conducted several searches of the 1901 Irish Census in an attempt to find him, even with using spelling variations of the surname, but so far I have come to no avail. I did find a Belfast burial record for 19th Feburary 1917 with a last place of residence being 51 Lisburn Road.

My 2x great-grandfather David Sweeney served in the Royal Irish Rifles as a Corporal during World War One. He received the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal. His registration number is 15-13679. I have been trying to find an Army Service record for him but I am wondering if they could have been destroyed.

Family History Beginners Board / Elizabeth Lynch
« on: Sunday 04 September 16 12:34 BST (UK)  »
Born 1849 and died 1890. She married Isaac Mulberry 15th October 1868 in Londonderry and her father's name was given as Hugh Lynch. So far I have been unable to locate a birth record which would provide me with the name of her mother but I was able to find a sister Matilda after discovering that three of her children (Jacob, Isaac and Annie Mulberry) were living with her. However in 1901 Matilda gives her age as 40 which would make her birth year about 1861 but in 1911 she gives her age as 67 therefore giving a birth year of 1844. I have considered 1844 to be the most likely but have so far been unable to find anything. Can anyone help?

Family History Beginners Board / Elizabeth McNamee
« on: Saturday 03 September 16 11:08 BST (UK)  »
For a while now I have hit a brick wall and I was wondering if anyone could help me. My great-great grandmother was called Elizabeth McNamee (1892-1980) and she married David Sweeney in 1917. I found records in the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census that provided the names of her parents John and Mary along with three siblings Ellen, John and William (living in Lepper Street, Belfast) . Her father died in 1910. However I have been unable to find a marriage or birth record that provides me with Mary's surname.
