Radnorshire / Fleece Innot c.1760
« on: Friday 16 June 17 11:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi Nice People,  Hope all is well with you all. Just a quick question  - Has anyone got any knowledge of a place called the Fleece Inn , Rhayader,
Radnorshire around 1750 ish as I think  part of my family  ( the Lewis's) were running it. It would appear that at least 2 generations died and are buried nearby and am hoping to go and see for myself in early September. Thank you for any help - kind regards Keith

Cardiganshire / Chasing Grandads Family
« on: Friday 26 May 17 20:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi Nice People,
I'm still trying to find my Grandad and his family. I have found out that he had a great love of Aberffrwd and lived there during his early life (1878ish) and he returned to the area later in his life and died in Aberystwyth and is supposed to be buried in Aberffrwd but I don't know when he died exactly. My information is that it was before the end of WWII and that he was "laid out" in his sister Elizabeth Davies' flat which was behind the Queens hotel above a car hire/garage with a short name beginning with L. I can find what I think is his family going to school in Aberffrwd and they should show up in the 1881 and 1891 census(s) but I can't find them.  The kids used to walk 3 miles to school and Elizabeth was living in Capel Bangor in 1957 so maybe... Sorry, I forgot to say my granddads name was David Davies and Great Granddad was Daniel Davies and married twice to A Mary Jenkins and  a Mary Stephens and both women are supposed to have had 6 children. This is driving me nuts and I am going to spend 4 days in Aberystwyth in early September and hope to see the "ole Plantation" and maybe see a few things through my eyes for some people who can't.
Thank you for any help. Kind regards Keith

« on: Monday 21 November 16 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello nice people, I've got another problem. My uncle Edgar Elias Davies, born in Clerkenwell, London on the 26th December 1902 but that is all I know about him. I know he made it to at least 1929 and I'm sure he is buried either in Manor Park or the City of London cemeteries. my plan is to go up to London to see all the Davies and Rogers graves I can find so, any "cunning plans" or plot numbers would be great! I seem to remember going to these cemeteries with my family when I was little my problem is I have the memory of a ...yes well er I forget what I've got a memory like! It's got to be 50 years ago we did this. Thanks again - keith ::)

London and Middlesex / Finding other Granny
« on: Thursday 20 October 16 23:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi People, I'm sorry to be a pest but I never met any of my grandparents and I would like to know if it's possible to go and pay my respects. Her name was Mary Elias until she married David Davies on the 30 Jan 1901 at Christ Church, Hoxton, London. Both were born in Wales. Grandad was born somewhere in Cardiganshire sometime in 1878 and was buried somewhere there in 1946 but, Grandma, born in Rhymney, Monmouthshire died in Bethnal Green having died in 1929 and I think she's buried there. It's funny, but, no-one ever mentioned any of them. This quest has been driving me nuts for a while so any help would be great - thank you for looking - Keith

Occupation Interests / My Grandfathers' jobs during WW1
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 19:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello Nice People, during WW1 one of my Grandfathers worked as a "Carman" but I don't know what that is. He worked in Bethnal Green and think he worked for the Post Office whereas my other Grandfather worked for L.C.C. on the buses at Hackney Wick but I'd like to know more about both and wondered if there was any way of tracing them at their work. Thank you for any help - Keith

Cardiganshire / My Grandfather David Davies
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 18:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello Nice People, I'm sorry to bother you again but I am having serious problems trying to find out about my Grandfather and his family. I know he married my Grandmother in Hoxton, Hackney, London on the 30th January 1901 and on the certificate are 2 people as witnesses that I don't know anything about. On the 1901 census they lived at 33 Central Street, Clerkenwell , London running a Diary - He came from somewhere near Aberystwyth and is supposed to be buried in Aberffrwd having died in Aberystwyth in 1946. He, like his father, sometimes was known as Daniel. I think a great aunt of mine lived in a cottage by Rheidol Falls until in 1960's I think. I'm told great grandfather married twice - both times to a Mary. I spent 3 days in the NLW and came out more confused than when I went in. I don't seem to have a logical enough brain but with a little guidance I am hopeful I can learn. Sorry to have gone on so long and I appreciate any help can get . Thanks again Keith - p.s. I'm told my family made Downton Abbey look tame!

Monmouthshire / David Elias and family 1822 onwards
« on: Wednesday 21 September 16 13:41 BST (UK)  »
Greetings nice people, I am trying to trace information on the Elias family as my Grandmother was one of them. David Elias , my great grandfather, was born in Rhymney in 1822 and married Mary Evans I know not when. I know they had only one son ,Elias, and I think 7 daughters. My grandmother was also a Mary and I know that my grandparents married in 1901 in Hoxton , London but I don't know how or where they met.  Any help or any ideas would be wonderful as I seem to be hitting a brick wall. Needless to say, I am an "L" plate and could do with any advice. Thank you! Keith
