Ireland Resources / Recommendations for in-person sources of info?
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 03:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I am researching family links who lived in different parts of Ireland: Tramore and Waterford city, Enniscorthy, Limerick city and Coleraine. I've spent quite a bit of time over the years researching online, through ancestry.com, findmypast.com, familysearch.org, irishgenealogy.ie, proni and groni, nationalarchives.ie and even Dr Google, with some good results and some continuing family history mysteries.
However, there is always more in archives and libraries than you can see online, so next year I'm going to Ireland for the first time to see what else I can find out in person.
Can anyone suggest repositories besides the national archives that would be useful to visit? I'd like to have a plan to make good use of limited time.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

South Africa / Antenuptial contract mentioned on marriage certificate
« on: Tuesday 09 October 18 04:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I found an image of an 'Original Marriage Register' for a wedding in Port Elizabeth, 2 March 1926 on familysearch.org. The couple are called William Alfred Helyar and Betty Berry, both born in England. One of the columns for information in the image asks: with or without Antenuptial Contract? The answer written in the space is Antenuptial Contract.
It would appear from the presence of the question on the register, that having an antenuptial contract was not unusual. Does anyone know if these contracts were deposited anywhere in particular and if so, whether they can be accessed?
Any thoughts on how to locate them would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ireland / How to get a copy of a will from 1908?
« on: Tuesday 03 July 18 02:25 BST (UK)  »
How can I locate and order a copy of a will from 1908?
I have found the will I'm looking for in the will calendars on the National Archives of Ireland website. Probate was granted at Limerick in 1908.
Is there a way to order a copy of it without going personally to the National Archives?
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Radnorshire / Where is Foesmascal?
« on: Saturday 06 January 18 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to identify a Richard Price of Foesmascal, parish of Nantmel. His name appears in the index of details of a legal file, as below:
RD/VV/43/64 26 September 1854
1. Thomas Palfrey, Abercamlo, p. Llandewy-Ystradenny; Margaret, his wife
2. James Stephens, Trelowgoed, p. Cefnllys, farmer
3. Edward Williams, Caerhyddwen, p. Nantmel and Richard Price, Foesmascal, same p. farmers.

Edward Williams was the brother of Thomas Palfrey's wife Margaret, and the legal document had to do with a settlement on the marriage of Thomas and Margaret. I think Edward Williams' mother's maiden name was Price, so am trying to see if I can work out a relationship.
Foesmascal may be the name of a farm or locality in Nantmel, and it may be spelled wrong. Does it look like a familiar place name to anyone? Any idea where it is or was?
Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

Radnorshire / Vronvary: is this a house or a village?
« on: Wednesday 28 September 16 10:49 BST (UK)  »
In burial records, the 'abode' of a number of PALFREY ancestors is given as 'Vronvary'. Is this another name for the village Vron/Fron, or is it likely to be the name of a dwelling?
A leasehold property referred to as 'Vron cottage' is mentioned in two wills. I'm trying to work out if all those Palfreys who died at Vronvary over the years were living in the same family home, or just lived in the same village. Can anyone with local knowledge tell me?
Thanks for your help.
