Staffordshire / harrison - Old Hill
« on: Saturday 11 August 07 19:47 BST (UK)  »
looking for harrison family who until 1880 resided in Old Hill. Benjamin Harrison married sarah hill in Dudley in 1876. they had 6 children who survived
Ruth
John
Beatrice (beatt)
George Albert
Ethel
Sarah

They moved to Staveley Derbys in 1880.

Beatt and Sarah never married.
Ruth married someone called Davies
George Albert married a widow called Mrs Steele
Ethel married Ernest Hardy from Stavely, Derbys.

can anyone help any further back
Benjamins father was also Benjamin and could have been a miner.

Was told possibly could have been gypsy's as they were in the area at the time. That would take care of the gob like a foghorn, aserbic comments and the wonder lust.

hope I got the right county as I know the line between worcestershire/ staffordshire and Shropshire is fine and moveable line.

Derbyshire / Hardy
« on: Saturday 11 August 07 19:36 BST (UK)  »
I know all my Hardy family back to 1708 come from the same few villages of Sandiacre, Long Eaton and Sawley. Does anyone out there know where the Hardy family orginated from. Could this be a scots name or is it definitely a Derbyshire name/ English name.

Thanks

Hi there Denn
I have the same problem.
My great grandma is supposed to be of some relation to FN but cannot find it anywhere. Her name was Sarah Ann(e) hardwick. Checked back and cannot find anything one generation back which is what family gossip said.  She is supposed to have said that she remembered FN coming on her horse to visit them at Press Farm which is a large manor farm in Press near Ashover. Names are on the deeds as we checked with present owners when mum was still alive. Now no longer with us.

If I find anything whilst digging will let you know. Thanks

Hi there try also looking up surname 'de rhodes' as there is a pub of that name still in Balborough on Worksop road. A57. They were a big family out that way according to grandma who lived at Mastin (Marsden) moor.

Hi Shirl
The hardwicks I've got are the following.
Robert hardwick (1786) married Esther Slack (1796) in  Heath on 20.3.1824
They had 8 children and only 6 survived
Robert 1824
John 1827
William 1827 died
Elizabeth 1829
Anne 1831
Sarah1831 died
Joseph 1834
isabella 1837

It's joseph I'm related to as he married Selina Thompson at heath and had 2 daughters harriet 1856 and Sarah ann (annie) 1858.

If this proves to be a link for you please get in touch again via the site. Thanks

Hi Bambie
Just to say that I have split up with the boyfriend who I was doing this for but am still in contact. If you know who Hugh's wife was that would help. They did go regularly to scotland and I believe lived there for a number of years.
Thanks
