The Lighter Side / Re: Ancestry subs reduced
« on: Tuesday 27 December 16 07:39 GMT (UK)  »
After I had my DNA tested through Ancestry, they offered a year sub for UK Heritage Plus (UK & Australia resources) at AUD$129 which I hesitatingly took up. I hadn't been on there for a couple of years, and found it much more user-friendly than I remembered. :) Of course I had to outlay for the DNA test in the first place but not sorry I did... :)

The Common Room / Re: Lazy Research

I just added many German relatives to a couple of branches some going back to 1500's - all from ancestry trees, which I checked as I went, to make sure they tallied. Missed one big inaccuracy though, despite being on more than ten or so trees - son born in 1756 / father in 1726 / mother in 1781??? I've had to leave that family motherless, though the paternal line seems okay. Every time I try to review sources, it comes up that I need to buy a worldwide subscription which I'm not going to do.  >:(

You prefer the company of 500 years of dead relatives to the current living ones  ;D

Having found one to hsng on our Australin branch I now keep finding others but where does Hurtle come from as a first name given to  a son of a verydevote  Methodist family/ ???

I became curious about this too when I read your post Trees, not having heard the name here myself and did some Googling with little result - just confirmation it is a Christian name and no-one knows where it came from. I found the question asked and one answer which just adds to the mystery.  ??? Anyway check it out...

From my German line I've been adding on Ancestry - Anonyma LEHR 1814-1814 and Anonymus LEHR 1820-1820 - I guess they were stillborn and not actually given names?  :'(

Norfolk / Re: Is this Possible?

Thanks all for assistance so far. I'd been thinking if they were married in 1748 as per Ancestry family tree info. it would be VERY unusual to not have children until 1776! I'll do some more research as per your suggestions and SC will definitely keep the info pencilled in!  :)

I've put this on another thread in the past, but came across this recently: Thomas and Mary Day had a son born 25 December 1762 and named him Christmas.  ;D I even have proof in 1801 with his signature on a marriage document when he was one of the witnesses!
