Seeking to find information on a long lost family member, and where he ended up. Hugh Sherlock was born in Tedavnet, Co Monaghan,  Ireland in the 1850s. He had a number of siblings, brothers Thomas and Nicholas who remained near home, brother Patrick who went to England, at least one sister Ann who also remained near home, and perhaps another sister who went to England. We do know that Hugh emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, and never returned home again. Any information appreciated on him, perhaps someone has access to ship's manifests or census records to find out a bit more, where he died or was buried etc. It's a long shot.....but thanks in advance.

Thank you all so much for all the time you have spent untangling my family tree. When I posted the question initially I wasn't even sure if anyone had access to the records, never mind the time it takes to seek them out and come back and post on here. It's much appreciated, and answers a long family query of where this man went to. Another brother Hugh Sherlock went to Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and was never in contact with home again, so I have lots more to be going on with. Thanks everyone!

Thank you so much for all your efforts, I really appreciate it. The name Hyamis sounds like Hamish/Seamus, the Irish variant of James.

Thanks for all the comprehensive information - I never thought I would even get a reply to my original query about Patrick Sherlock. According to family lore he left Tydavnet, Co Monaghan, and never returned. He originally had 2 brothers, Nicholas and Thomas (who remained in Co Monaghan), and possibly 2 sisters. We do know about his sister Ann who remained in Monaghan/Tyrone (Ireland), and perhaps another who died in England (have no information at all on her, but going by family naming traditions she was likely to have been Mary, Elizabeth or Brigid). The birth of Nicholas, Ann and this other sister probably preceded official records which started in 1864, but according to baptismal records Thomas was born about 1862. So it's still a work in progress, thank you for taking the time to offer a lot of help.

Thank you so much, I’ve a lot to be going on with now.

Thank you everyone, I wasn’t expecting replies so fast. Yes, Patrick’s original Irish address is correct, and I am delighted to find the names of the children, most of those names came down the generations. I am delighted to know where the family went, as family lore suggests the wife was also from Monaghan. Thank you

I don't have much information to go on... but seeking information on the marriage of Patrick Sherlock and ??? Lynch who settled in Newcastle upon Tyne. Patrick was from Tydavnet, Co Monaghan, (Ireland) and was born in 1864. ??? Lynch was from Ballybay, Co Monaghan, (Ireland). I don't know where they were married, but I have failed to find their records on the Irish Genealogy website. Any help appreciated, to fill in a few blanks in the hedge...Thank you.

Mary Holland was definitely Catholic, as was her mother Ann Holland. Mary was married to William Smyth in the Roman Catholic Presbytery of Clogher. However, I'm not sure of William's religion. Thanks for the replies.

Tyrone / Seeking information on Holland/Smith/Smyth families in Clogher area

Seeking information on Mary Holland, daughter of Ann Holland of Corleaghan, and her husband William Smith/Smyth.......Ann Holland was a gamekeeper for Lord Rossmore on Sliabh Beagh, and she died in Clogher in 1920; presumably she is buried in St Macartan's (Forth) Chapel, but no headstone to recognise this. In relation to Ann Holland's daughter Mary Holland, information appreciated about the man she married, William Smyth from Cloghlynn, a neighbouring townland of Corleaghan where she was born. Mary (an only child) and William married in Clogher on 3rd March 1919, and within a year her mother (Ann Holland) died (Feb 1920), she herself died (March 1920), and her new baby son also died aged 4 weeks. William Smyth's father was named John, but the marriage certificate did not specify if he was deceased at the time William married Mary. Seeking any further information on what became of William - did he remarry, perhaps he emigrated, or when/where did he die, where is he buried etc? Trying to piece together more information on the family or indeed any other family connections. Information appreciated.
